So many people are convinced that we are not Christian and spend time telling us that we are wrong and that we are going to hell, that I say that we drop Christianity as a whole and embrace cult status. Despite the fact that what they think doesn't matter, I think we should. If they are the perfect example of True Christians, I don't want to be affiliated with them. What do you think?

I don't care if you think the L.D.S. Faith is right or not. If you aren't L.D.S, you don't even need to answer.

I'm an atheist, and I know you said non-LDS folks need not answer, but in a way, I'm on your side on this issue. I don't see where LDS is any more or less credible than any other branch of Christianity. Anyone who professes that Christ is the son of God is a Christian, by definition.

I work in a business where I come across a lot of people and it affords me a lot of dialog with clients, and invariably, here and there, the subject of religion will come up. I don't divulge that I'm a Mormon at first. I pretty much keep it basic and show them that I have a good fund of knowledge about the Bible. (Many Christians don't think we abide by the Bible) When at last they finally ask me what church I go to, and I tell them, they are usually surprised that I knew so much about the Bible, and how more alike in doctrine we are than different from mainstream churches.

To tell you the truth, I have won over a lot of non-Mormon friends this way by establishing a solid base of common religious beliefs. I have many non-Mormon friends and acquaintances who have said that they have come to realize that they were wrong about the church and are pleasantly surprised.

My point is, I was once a Mormon basher, but now have a testimony solid as a rock, so don't be offended by what is being said about Mormons from the Christian offenders. Hold your ground, be prepared with knowledge and a testimony, and rise to the challenge. It works for me!

LOL!!!!... How freaking funny!!!!

Sure, I'll claim to be a Christian cultist...... sorry, just can't get rid of the whole "Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam" thing...

Funny story---
One time someone said that Joseph Smith was the devil incarnate (or something like that)... Anyway, he then turns to Emma and says some thing to the effect of asking her how she likes being married to the handsomest devil around.... She didn't think it was very funny.

Another one from early church history...
One guy told another guy (both not LDS, but one was friendly and the other not) that all Mormons were going to hell. The other man said that if all Mormons are going to hell, he'd rather be there with them, cuz they were just so darn nice.

We will not embrace "cult status"
who cares what other religions think...we are Christians and always will be...it says so in our name...
A Christian is someone who believes in Christ...why would we drop that?
but saying cult...well people will really hate us then and that isn't what we are...
We are a religious organization....a church..The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints!
I will NOT embrace cult status...

So people think we are going to hell...turn away from them....it doesn't matter if they think we are going to hell...we have our beliefs....don't stray from it!

I think you need to think about this a little more....cult is a very harsh negative word...is that something we want to use in our names? I know i won't...

I agree with squishy. In 1800's when Joseph Smith recieved revelation, Christ constantly said "Behold, the great and last marvoules day is nigh at hand", so if Christ is saying this 200 years ago, where are we today? We are in the last days and Satan is fighting truth with a blunt sword. Honestly, I wouldn't be suprised if Christ came in my lifetime, I'm here on earth to serve him till the end.

Yea, blessed are they whose feet stand upon the land of Zion, who have obeyed my gospel; for they shall receive for their reward the good things of tthe earth, and it shall bring forth its strength.
And they shall also be crowned with blessings from above, yea and with commandments not a few, and with revelations in their time--they tghat are faithful and dilligent before me.

I'm with Dane on this one. I can't say that I'm not a Christian just because the world or this YA world thinks that I'm not - not even in jest. Actually, especially not in jest.

I'm a Mormon, and to those who actually know of my beliefs, they know that makes me a Christian also. Just because my form of Christianity doesn't match with someone else's form of Christianity doesn't mean that one of us isn't a Christian. I'm sure we're both trying our best to be the best Christian we know how to be. The fact that someone else says that I can't possibly be a Christian because of XYZ reasons, just means that their beliefs are different than mine, and that it will take me more time and effort to convince them that I am. And that can only be accomplished through the open dialog of friendship.

Remember that God is all about love, the devil is all about hate. To react to those who don't believe we're Christian is giving the devil what he wants, and drives the Spirit away.

That is one idea that is interesting, and I know that I think it's a good one. Too few "true Christians" are willing to embrace that everyone has the right to worship how, where and what they may. I don't shove my religion down their throats, and I do my best to respect those who believe differently than me, and that's all that I ask in return.
Good Question, Shorty, very good question.

whats with all this not caring? Aren't we SUPPOSED to care? As people who believe that they are brothers and sisters of Christ, beloved children of a eternally loving Heavenly Father, how can we NOT care about what other think, feel, or want, or WHATEVER? If you want to drop Christ's name from your title, that's your choice, because we, as a church, claim the privilege of worshiping the Almighty God. And isn't it awesome? We allow all men the same privilege! Let them worship how, where or what they may! Well, i guess thats how it's supposed to be...

some day all religions but the lds church will be gone anyway.
The scriptures say there are only 2 churchs. The church of the devil. And god's one and only true church. I forsee a day when all religion collapses, except the lds church. And it will be the lds chruch against the world. People who are evil will drift away from religion. People who are good honest people will eventually all drift twords the lds church. And than the great and last struggle will take place that will end the world
so just be nice to other religions. dont try to get away from them, just try to convert them before it becomes to late for them.

you should let people know about the church and give The Book of Mormon. but after that is their choice to choose if the church is true or not. I am a mormon too and i beleive that we are the one and only true church. but u should never hate other people. I believe it was Jesus who said never judge people. Choose The Right and do not judge other people for how they look or their beliefs. Us mormons know that church is true and that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and that one day everyone will become mormon. so try not to judge and get evil thoughts out of ur head "Let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly and then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God.
