Hi.
There are no risks recorded for the use or retrieval of stem cells from a therapeutic point of view.
Opponents of this research would say that extending the legal retrieval beyond the currently established cell lines would result in increased abortions and/or embryo production because the stem cells would then (presumably) have a monetary value. This argument is (IMHO) specious as there are countries where there are little or no restrictions on the sources of stem cells, and the predicted increases in this activity have not occured.
