It really is difficult to remain unbiased when it comes to discussing Americans. They arrogate to themselves the right to act as this planet's policeman, to condemn other countries for real or perceived breaches of human rights and to rail against forms of government which in American eyes are less democratic than theirs. As Americans are such good Christians, surely they know the passage in the Bible that says: "O thou hypocrite, before thou wouldst remove the splinter from thy brother's eye, attend to the beam in thine own eye!" Never has a passage from the Bible been more apt. So naturally do Americans become defensive when their own shortcomings are pointed out to them, because to face the truth would be unbearable.
Which other self-proclaimed peace-loving country has waged so many wars against smaller defenceless countries, has allowed the members of their military to commit atrocity after atrocity going back to WW2, the Korean War, Vietnam, and now Iraq?
In what other country do you need to be a millionaire or at least be able to raise millions in order to be elected to parliament or chief executive?
Where else on this globe has the education system broken down and/or deteriorated to such an extent that children no are no longer able to read and write or do simple arithmetic and need to take remedial classes upon entering college?
In which other country with the exception of certain Middle Eastern nations does a small fundamentalist religious minority have the power to manipulate both government and the media to enforce a Victorian concept of morality upon an unwilling population?
I could go on and on, but let this suffice.
No wonder Americans are sensitive when it comes to discussing their shortcomings

WOW!!!!! That is awesome!!!!!!!!! I almost split a tear (not joking). But, that kinda makes you want to know the question. Thank you SO VERY MUCH for sharing that answer!!!!! You are a good answer. Though, I do wish you would give credit to to the answerer. That is so beautiful, yahoo should give the person who said that a prize or something. I am proud of that answerer. You are a good person sharing that with us. Again, I thank you. I would thank the person who said it, but, unfortunately, I don't know who they are. If you do, tell them I said thanks. God Bless.

P.S. I am an american. I live in tulsa, oklahoma. And no. "Okies", well, most "Okies" don't talk in that southern accent. And we're not dumb. In fact, Oklahoma has one of the highest test scores in the USA. Not that I'm bragging, or even trying to defend myself. I don't even know why I said (or typed) that. WOW. This P.S. is getting pretty long. I guess I will end it now. Bye! And God Bless!!!!!

Wow, I guess you feel so strongly about this subject that you just couldn't muster the words yourself? You needed to copy and paste someone else's opinion? If we are so bad, why is the rest of the world trying to get into America??? We would be happy to close our borders and stop all foreign aide tomorrow! Is that what the rest of the world is looking for? If we send a billion US dollars to a foreign country, YES, we will want them to account for it! And NO, we don't want Russia or North Korea taking over Mexico and Canada.
And, did WE start WW2, the Korean war, Vietnam, or Iraq wars? No, We didn't!!
Get your facts straight before pointing your finger internationally.
And, just so you're aware because your educational and informational systems obviously didn't fill you in, the war in Iraq was the result of a United Nations resolution. Did you get that? "UNITED NATIONS"! All UN members were supposed to be involved but Bush/The United States was the only member with the balls to step up to the plate and do something!!!
Think before you speak!

This has to be the most bulls**t explanation I have ever heard regarding the American people. It has more Muslim or Islamic connotations attached to it that it's almost humorous, but it is not funny. Your concerns should be focused on the American government, and not on the American people as a whole. The vast majority of Americans, in my opinion, have no interest in hurting or killing other people's or nations. They have no interest in taking over other nations. I would even go further to say that the world has totally forgotten the humanitarian acts that the Americans have done to SAVE many countries from total starvation and annihilation. Your rantings serves no porpose here.(from a non American)

The way America is run is a darn shame, but other countries also had several years (some hundred's of years) more to perfect their government. I'd modestly say the majority of countries of the world probably are run much worse with so much more experience and chances to realize they are wrong. America was founded on self interest and nothing more and thats our most major flaw, but not all Americans are okay with our hypocritical behavior and many are working to change it. Keep in my mind we are the youngest counrty, and we have advanced much quicker than most, but we can only progress so fast. Its not fair to criticize a country thats not PERFECT. Look at where those other countries were so early into their history? Its bad now, but give us time.

Most Americans have nothing to do with war or politics. We are just going to work, raising our families and trying to maek the best life possible. I personally have not waged war or criticized other countries for being less democratic. These blatant generalizations are not a true picture of what an Americian is or what America is like.

The person who wrote that should try reading his own biblical quote and pull the splinter out of his own eye first!

I couldn't agree more, the United States has faults, yes, but so do other countries. I hardly think it is appropriate to highlight some of the United States issues without saying anything about other countries faults. I am from America the great, Texas to be exact, and I love this country. I do not judge other countries or think that the US is superior to any other country. Instead of down grading the US, why don't we find something better to do with our time.

I owuld love to debate the veil in front of your eyes when it comes to that "answer" an outsider has proclaimed.
There is not one country that can succeed in being a perfect country. You would die studying all the countries in this planet and it strengths, weaknesses, abilities and inabilities thorughout history.
I will point out that America has lost it foundation and its moral compass. The minority is justifying its voice to rule over the majority. Liberals are clamoring for its ability to function without God. Christians are striving to get their voice back, yet allowing compromise to intake their churches, further weakening its stance. Moral clarity no longer is the norm, since there is no center of judgment.
No government is perfect. No country is perfect.

Please make mention of your own plank before complaining of the splinter in others.

Bravo!

Yes, the things you say I would have to say many here in the US would agree with you.

The US also built its country on the back of slave labor in the 20th Century.

But, in the defense of my country, I would not want to live anywhere else in the world. Because with all its flaws and there as you have shown and I agree with many - it has a freedom that no other country dares to breed . . . and that is the freedom of religion. We don't put to death those that won't adhere to a certain religion, like let's say many of the Muslim nations.

This country has many flaws and has a long way to go - pray for us is what I ask of you.

God Bless You

You made some very valid points. Though I still think we live in the greatest country on Earth, we have our problems. I think if our "leaders" spent as much time taking care of their own people as they do on foreign policy and policing the planet, we would have far fewer problems in our own backyard. I for one tire of being the world's police department and piggy bank. Bush has us spread so thin right now that I feel we are wide open to attack upon our own soil. I pray that it doesn't happen.

You can't group all the American people into this description. It's just dehumanizing them and making them the enemy and easy to hate.

And in World War Two, America was fighting a very good cause and without them joining in the Allies would have lost the war, don't group that in with Iraq.
