i've read the old testament many times and based on most of those stories, one can only assume that he would have found another reason to wipe everyone out

Well unlike all of the other flood myths of antiquity Noah is the only one who just followed along like a blind sheep. The other characters, all put up some form of argument with their god even if nothing changed.
God tells Noah build a boat, Noah's says, "um,okay".
God tells Noah he is going to wipe out the entire planet, does Noah says "uh god, I don't think that's such a good idea? Nope, does he say anything or protest in any way? Nope. He was an automaton and it has stuck in the religion and been passed down for 3200 years or so.

If the whole world repented, then they would no doubt KNOW why Noah was building the ark, to I'm sure they would not have made fun of him for going through all the effort.

They would have dry-docked it outside the Garden of Eden as they did the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
Your question is not so absurd, Donkey, because Jonah was concerned that the Ninevites would repent and he'd look like a fool. They did repent, but God had a prophetic application. As you know, Nineveh was to be destroyed in 40 days--there repentance was short lived, and like Jerusalem, it was destroyed after forty years.
Yes, it was the fortieth Passover from Jesus' crucifixion when it fulfilled. God knows exactly what He is doing, and that is why He gave a Bible code for intelligent people to figure the truth out. See www.revelado.org/revealed.htm

Theologically, God wouldn't have wiped everyone away, he would have saved them. BUT as for Noah, that's where I'm stuck. As long as it happened, I don't need to worry about the if's.
Anyways, I think if God knew that the people were going to repent, then he wouldn't have told Noah to build the ark.

God would have not flooded,
Noah was the only one who believed in God
therefore if everyone repented they heard it from Noah
thus Noah gets glorified as a prophet

If the whole world repented then they would believe that God showed them mercy and thats why the flood didn't come. They would not question Noah's sanity.

Well if Noah didn't get committed when he said the world was going to end and no one believed him. I doubt he would be committed for building an ark for no reason.
I'd probably still use it for summer boat trips with my
5 million friends.

God would know if the entire planet was going to repent. Since we are already in the realm of speculation.

he had to build the ark no matter what because Christ had not died for all of man's sins yet. my Scripture isn't the greatest, but i am reasonably sure that that is the key to repentance working, there was aperfect sacrifice in our stead.
