500,000,000 Chinese can be ordered by the government to render military service from ages 18 to 50. That is a formidable army to reckon with.

As many as they need or want to.
Military service in China is supposedly compulsory, though most military age men never serve. Even with the current level of conscription, they find they lack the resources to train and equip all of their recruits.

China does not draft anyone into their military, they tell the people they are going to be in it and thats it. No draft, No free will, No voluntary service. Communist is communist, you give your life to the government whether you want to or not.
Just as an example their military has approximately 4 million people in it.
