Army Regulation 40-501 governs all medical questions if you really want to know specifics. Medical fitness standards for enlistment, induction, and appointment, including officer procurement programs. Medical fitness standards for retention and separation, including retirement. Medical fitness standards for diving, Special Forces, Airborne, Ranger, free fall parachute training and duty, and certain enlisted military occupational specialties (MOSs) and officer assignments. Medical standards and policies for aviation. Physical profiles. Medical examinations and periodic health assessments.
Or you can just email me and I could answer some of your questions.

The words "permanently medically disqualified" mean that you cannot get a waiver. Sorry, but you will not get into the military in any role. This condition is also going to prevent you from getting onto a police force. So forget SWAT. If it is serious enough to give you a permanent bar, it's something that is going to stop you from getting any kind of high-speed physical job. Take the time to accept your limitations. Then move on. Losing a dream hurts, but you have to understand that those standards are in place for very good reasons.

There are over 200 conditions and diseases which are disqualifying. The source below is the link to the Standards of Medical Fitness used for physical exams. Read Chapter 2. Those are the disqualifying factors for initial enlistment.

My knees disqualified me. I had surgery in both of em and they wouldn't let me join up. It used to be that if you were missing your pointing finger or your big toe you couldn't join up. The reason behind this was, without a pointing finger you couldn't pull the trigger and with out a big toe you cannot balance as well. I am not making this up and I am not sure if it is still like this, but it seriously used to disqualify you from service.

Ooh, I could rattle on about this for ages... I'll see if I can remember as many as I can off the top of my head
- Crohn's Disease
- Blindness in one or both eyes
- Severe asthma
- Presence of grommets in the ears
- Prosthetic body parts
- Gluten intolerance
- Allergies
- Hemophilia
- Paralysis
- Current glandular fever
- Cancer and non-malignant growths
- Deafness or poor hearing
- Severely poor eyesight
- Bad teeth
- Obesity
- Being underweight
- Muscular dystrophy
- Recurring back pain
- Poor range of body movement
- STDs
- Anal blockages and infections
Most will prevent you from enlisting, though servicemen who find themselves suffering from one or more of them due to service life (ie, if a soldier were to lose a leg, hearing or an eye to a land mine) may be allowed to continue serving.
For instance, one of my instructors in recruit training was completely deaf in one ear due to an unfortunate missile accident, yet deafness in one ear would surely disqualify anyone from joining.

Well I'm 50 years old and I've already served in the US Marines but just about any physical problem will keep you out even flat feet.
