The cover up, hands down.

A few rogue priests are bad enough, but when the Church leaders go in collusion with them ... that's untenable.

Since you asked, what really bothers me is the cover up. BUT not just the coverup, but the fact that innocent priests are being railroaded without any proof or due process.

I know of 2 priests, 1 a very close friend of my famliy. The were removed from their positions and were not given an opportunity to defend themselves. In the case of our family friend, there was absolutly no proof. I believe he is still fighting it, but it is very frustrating to see a good man with a good heart get treated so unfairly by the church. (For the record he is acused of molesting a young girl , not a boy.)

Because of the scandels it seems that the church is shooting first and asking questions later and it's ruining lives.

If a priest is guilty then he deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law, but if he is innocent then he deserves his due process.

Just MHO.

The preist pedophiles. the cover up isn't right either, but it's understandable why it's being done. There aren't many who want to be preiests anymore, so now, the one's who want to stay, get away with murder. But preists do know better, so if they have a problem, they should seek some type of help, or get a provision where kids aren't left alone with them. OH, being gay shouldn't be a bad thing in catholicism either. Why is it? Because it's in the bible? The OT? Well, then, an eye for an eye is in the OT too, but that's bad. Yes, Christ said love one another, that includes gays. Sure, he didn't have to say it...because ok, it goes against creation, so it's wrong, but that dosen't mean it should be hated or supressed...this is y pedophilia exists. If it's dealt with, maybe there might be help for those who want it. But of course, in every negative behavior, sececy is the key. So nothing gets solved.

There is no cover up. The Catholic Church as a whole did not mismanage the investigation and prosecution of pedophile priests, but some individuals and dioceses did. No matter what the intention of the persons involved in not pursuing the issue more vigorously and openly, failure to do so was wrong. Reasons given vary from not wanting to subject the Church to public scandal to not wanting to embarrass the priest involved and everything in between. As a result, the Church has been publicly ridiculed and the priesthood as a whole was embarrassed. As we have all learned, it is never allowable in God's eyes to commit a sin (or fail to admit that one has been committed) even if the attempted result is believed to be for the common good.

What really bothers me is people like you who continue to bring up this issue in this forum. Let you who are without sin, cast the first stone. The Church is doing its best not to coverup and is cooperating with the police to bring to justice those who deserve to be punished.

there was no official coverup, but if you're referring to the bishops who would move the bad priests around instead of turning them in,

then that one.

You mean the less the 1/2% of homosexual pedophile priests that infiltrated the church in the 50's or the fact that the church did what science(medical community) said to do, put them in therapy and they will be cured. It all bothers me. It also bothers me that there are pedophiles in every walk of life. In schools, firestations, police stations, in the senate, in Protestant churches, in kids sports programs, babysitters, dad's ,uncles, brothers, grandfathers.

The evil in people who try to taint the true Church of Jesus Christ at large because of a relatively few sinners.
