What you need to do is keep the dog on a leash while indoors. That way he won't sneak of to potty. Keep taking him outside every 15 or so minutes. Set a timer if you need to. When outside take the dog to the same area and say "go potty." Wait a while and the back inside on leash if he doesn't go. Keep this up until your dog does go potty. When he finally does potty outside... while he is going very quietly say "good dog" as soon as he is done throw him a party! Say "yay!" "good dog" all of that stuff and give him a treat right away. Make sure you are not punishing this dog for pottying indoors. That will lead the dog to be afraid to potty in front of you. That will make potty training that much harder. Strict supervision indoors. Restrict areas of the house that he doesn't need to be in. Supervision equals prevention. Clean all old potty spots off rugs with an enzyme odor eliminator specifically made for pets. I really like the brand Nature's Miracle. You can buy it at most pet supply stores. Good luck!

You need to stay out there with him, if he doesn't go after 10-15 mins he goes in his crate, or you watch him like a hawk. Take him out again 15 mins later, or if you see him start to go say NO sharply and rush him outside to finish. Praise lavishly when he does.

This isn't the dogs fault. You haven't taught where to go, and you are not giving him the supervision he needs in order to learn.

Do NOT rub his nose in it, this will only make things worse, you will appear scary and unpredictable to him, and your potty training efforts will be greatly affected by his fears.

Potty training takes time, patience and supervision, supervision and you guessed it more supervision.

I know this is the unpopular answer but it has worked on every dog I have had and all of my friends dogs....Rub nose in urine spank it and say no just once then put em outside....

Please don't flame me I will not listen or change my mind.
