I bought a kitten today, and it had no worms in its poo, but it crawled up on my lap, and i noticed a white thing coming out of its bum (what else could it be but worms?) so now im freaking out. i dont want to hurt my unborn baby, AND i have a 3 yr old son. I called the vet, and she goes in at noon, but what are my chances of getting them or hurting my unborn child now? Im freaked out now.

I wouldnt let your son near the kitten because children put stuff in their mouths and such. You could be contaminated but the chances are HIGHLY unlikely. I would put the kitten in the bathroom or in a box and take it to the vet in the morning. THey will give her something for all worms (especially the tapeworms you saw) and she will be better in a couple of days.

All kittens have worms so don't panic. There is little chance of hurting an unborn child or even a 3yr old. Either go to your vet or local petstore and ask for a broadspectrum wormer. You will have to repeat the worming again in a couple of weeks which hopefully will sort things but worming is an issue which you will have to deal with regularly after that to keep things under control, especially if is to be an outdoor cat.

Theres a little chance you or your unborn baby can get the worms, as for your son just make sure he doesn't put anything yucky in his mouth. I have been around several cats with worms, even some of them got on me (which was really really gross) but i have never gotten them. The vet will probably just give it some medican and all should be well...Good luck

Relax! It's just a tapeworm caused by fleas who bite your kitten. Those are the small white "rice" looking worms, although they can be even smaller & shorter than a grain of rice. It's very common in kittens and nothing for you to stress over. You will not get the tapeworm unless you eat one, and I don't think you're going to do that! :)
The vet can administer something that will kill the tapeworms, or you can buy de-wormer pills at Petco that work fine too. (Since you said "bum" I'm going to assume you're in the UK and not sure if there are Petco's over there?)

You, your unborn baby, and your son will all be fine. Just take the cat to be wormed and make sure to keep your fingers and your sons out of your mouths. Don't worry.

properly, you've the right idea. Leaving her outdoors all day will rigidity her to pass to the lavatory outdoors. My kitten used to run in and use the litterbox, yet then everytime i'd see him sniffing and scratching round it, identity placed him decrease back outdoors for type of 20 minutes. diverse human beings say removing the littlerbox will cause them to pass outdoors, if youd favor to attempt that, yet that sounds slightly risky to me. it might want to easily take a short even as for her to understand she will pass even as shes accessible. i imagine at 11 weeks, you should only be proud that shes clutter experienced. :)

It's probably just tapeworms. You need to worry more about changing the litterbox, because of the possibility of contracting toxoplasmosis.Either have your husband change it,or wear rubber gloves, clean the box with hot bleach water( rinse well),and wash your hands well after cleaning the box or handling the kitten. You and your kids will be fine.

Unless you INGEST them, you won't get the worms, so just stay calm.
Parasites are easy to treat for in the cat. And they're easy to treat for in people too. Just follow the vet's instructions.

No risk to people unless they swallow a worm. Wash your hands. See that your 3 year-old washes his hands.

Calm down, take the kitten to the vet, and ALL will be well.
Next time you get a new pet, take it RIGHT AWAY to the vet before taking it home!!
