I have never had a problem with overdrafting before until today. I religiously check my balance (Once everyday online) Before making any purchases. Lately, I am not sure where things went wrong, but I noticed my purchases were not showing up online BUT my balance kept going down. I assumed that what was posted online was my available balance(b/c thats how its always been) but for the past week my purchases were still not showing up but my balance continued to go down. My paychecks are directly deposited into my account so I checked to see if that cleared. it had, but instead of having an available balance of $430, it was $175. I was very confused when I saw that I had an overdraft fee of over $200. I called wachovia's 800 number and they said that they could only refund me $50. But I really feel frustrated because I dont believe I was totally careless, as I always keep track online for its "convenience", yeah right. Is there anything else I can do?? I dont want to lose all this money.

Go to the bank in person for help instead. Explain your situation.

Your on line banking should show the temporary authorization even though it hasn't deducted from your checking account. As soon as your swipe the card at the store, it should show up on your on line banking as a temporary authorization. It will deduct from your checking on the next business day.

You have to keep track and deduct it immediately. That way you won't over spending. Bank only waive one transaction fee. I doubt that they will waive the rest. You can try to talk to the banker but I don't think they will waive all of them.

If you have a credit card with the same bank. You can link your credit card with your checking account with an over draft protection. However, if you overdraft, it will charge you the rate as ATM or Cash advance (24.24%) plus a $10 for transfer the money from your credit card to your checking account.

Your online balance doesn't reflect checks or debit card transactions that haven't made it to your bank yet. These would be outstanding transactions.

You should keep a check register and post all your check and debit card transactions. That way you won't have problems like this.
