they are a little pricy, but you can purchase a roller that holds the paint in its handle. it acts like a syringe and you suck some paint out of the can into the handle, then squeeze it out thru the roller and roll onto the wall. Ive never used one, but i hear they work well. if you are using a thicker paint you may have to thin it acording to label instructions.
there are also "paint pads" that are fantastic for triming in the edges. the ones ive seen are red and black with a white "pad" and little black wheels on one side so they will roll along the ceiling as they apply paint to just the wall.

always use a good masking tape on EVERYTHING around the wall (trim, ceiling, etc.)

You must buy a drop sheet for the paint , begin by masking all the trims with painter's tape, get the step ladder and begin the cutting, this is to paint all around the walls with a brush I usually use an angled brush buy a good quality one you can wash it keep it for another project ,with the brush you then paint close to the ceiling, you can use a guide for this , then with the roller you paint the walls, keep a damp cloth with you to wipe the paint if drops fall on you . If you ask the paint department they will be glad to give you all the tips that you need.

If you're going to paint the ceiling do it first, move what furniture you can out of the room, and the rest move to the middle of the room, cover with plastic drop clothes ,and the floor that the furniture does;nt cover...you can get the plastic drop clothes really cheap and masking tape.at Wal Mart..cut in ceiling with brush & roll, let dry...walls,next make sure the drop clothes are very close to the base board or even tape drop to floor ,, put tape on top fo base board ,around windows, wall outlet plates, cut in ,,roll,,if you're going to paint the trim too dont worry to much about getting paint on it ,,if not make sure the tape is stuck good ,but do not leave tape on to long, you might have to scrape it off

Alena,
Here is what to do in preparation of painting
have either old sheets or tarp on the floor
to avoid getting paint on the windows use making tape around the windows
if its the walls remove the baseboards if you don't want to get paint on the baseboard.
remove the light switch cover
If its a bedroom cover the bedroom with plastic or old sheets or tarp.
You will save yourself a lot of work from cleaning up if these precautions are used.
Take your time to do a good painting

Make sure you take all furnture out. line the floor with newspaper or a tarp. so if paint drips of gets spilled you won't have to worry about cleaning up a mess. also take bucket or pot of water and set in the center of the room with windows open to help with the paint smell . I hope this helps and good luck to you.

until eventually there's a very thick latest end (which could purely be seen at parts that are chipped, and so on.), you do not favor to strip, notwithstanding you do favor to sand it with one hundred - one hundred fifty grit (even with the very undeniable reality that there are primers that declare to bond to sleek, nonsanded surfaces its not counseled). Spend a at the same time as sanding the floor, then vacuum or wipe with damp cloth, & best with Kilz proper type or Zinser, and so on. in case you do not best with a suitable notch primer/sealer your paint interest could commence to peel in a pair of years or quicker. you should best it, i have seen many similar paint jobs peel because of incorrect prep or lack of priming. you do not favor that! The primers i discussed will do 2 usual issues: create a bond with the previous end, and; seal out the present stain colour from bleeding by using to the hot end colour, particularly mild colorations. once primed, i favor to gently sand and wipe back earlier portray with the wanted end. sturdy success & i am hoping this helps.
