The Bible makes it clear this world is no picnic. It was never meant to be perfect and the Bible tells us our path will be very hard. It's not an easy world due to sin in the world. God loves us which is why he is preparing a place for us in heaven. We are constantly tested by Satan in this world, he wants us to lose our faith. But if we hold strong to our faith and don't waiver then we will be rewarded in Heaven for a eternity.

great question- I was there once- I keep reminding myself of the fact that the greatest love that one person has for another is that they give up their life for a friend. AND JESUS DID THAT- because it is so true that life can "scream" just the opposite of that, I will in short tell you a quick part of my story.
I became a Christian when I was 17- I am almost 50- all of those years I have struggled and suffered with a chronic illness that has cause me pain almost every day. My hubby is perm. disabled from injuries at work, and also has diabetes and a blood clotting disorder. Other family issues we hope and wish and pray were not there- but how can I know that God loves and cares for me in the midst of this- I have to choose to believe it some days- the feeling is not always there- and when I start doubting, that is the time that i have to praise Him anyway. Nothing can separate us from the love of God- even death- if we know Jesus Christ. It can be hard, but what you can share with your friend, hang onto the truth that He loves her/him enough to have given His life for her/him. On days when the feeling is not there- step out and chose to praise Him, and you will be surrounded by the love of God. When I began to realize the grace of God is sufficient for everything I go through, His love becomes overwhelming.

Assure him/her that God loved Christ and that He had a much tougher go of it thanwe do. God also loved Paul and he suffered more than we can imagine.

Many more christians were eaten by the lions than those who walked away. The reason God acts in some instances and doesn't in others is a mystery that will not be unfolded until we all go home

This is the problem of theodicy... there are many explanations and answers that could be offered to this question depending on what sort of philosophy this person buys into the most, but if they are asking you, tell them what keeps your faith strong when your will is tested, even if it is just a feeling in your heart that God loves you, no matter what.

Bad things happen because of man's rejection of God. God allows bad things to happen to Christians because these times are for testing and growing in your faith. The testing of your faith produces perserverance etc. as we read in James and 1 Peter I believe. Being a Christian doesn't guarantee smooth happy times for the rest of your life on Earth, but it does guarantee eternal rest when Christ returns.

I always tell them - the truth is, GOD did create a perfect world where bad things never happen to good people; a world with no war, famine, disease or hunger; a world of no tears, no pain and no suffering.

It's called HEAVEN.

And just because GOD didn't make Earth exactly like HE made Heaven - doesn't mean HE loves us any less; it just means we need to trust that HE knows what HE is doing.

HE is GOD....and we are not.

Christ had a lot more bad happen to him than we could. Are we greater than he? He descended below all things so he could understand what we go through. Often we would prefer to cast all sufferings, mistakes, wrongdoings from us, but we would be missing out on some of the greatest growth we can experience. While no one wishes for bad, we should do the best we can when it does happen.

Basically, it is a sin issue. Had Adam and Eve not messed up in the Garden Of Eden, we would all have the "warm and fuzzy" life with God. But because they did, it caused all of mankind to be sinners. It released disease and all sorts of other stuff in to the world. Thank God that Jesus gave His life for us on the cross so that we are all forgiven.

A Course In Miracles explains that God does not have anything to do with the world! The world is what we made. Remember that in the Bible we were evicted from the Garden so what happens is now our doing. God doesn't even really know we are gone from the Garden. He is pure and thus He sees his creations as pure. Can pure create anything unpure? This, it is our minds that have chosen against God that have caused the bad that we see.

Some people can't receive the blessings from God that He tries to bestow upon them, because they have their eyes and mind on their problems and circumstances more than the power or love of God.
