It actually depends on what state you live in. Some states restrict Bows to a minimum of 40lbs draw-weight for hunting Deer and Turkey. Others don't have any restrictions. I used a 35lb Bow when I was a teenager here in Maryland but they changed the law here too making it 40lbs or more. The reasoning is pretty simple. The Game & Fish Commissions don't want a lot of wounded Deer and/or Turkeys running around and the thinking is if the Bow is 40+ pounds there is more of a chance of a clean kill and not a "wounding".You should be able to check your resident state laws on the Internet. Good Luck!

Either draw weight will work which ever your more comfortable with recurves aren't exactly harder to pull back but there's no let off so you have the full weight the entire time look around for an older bear bow you find them for about 50 dollars or so

I believe you would be better off with a minimum of 45 lb.** I like my 47 Lb Hoyt.** As always the most important factor is shot placement of the arrow or bullet.** Practice, Practice, Practice.**

Should be okay for turkey but a little light for deer.
