270, big kick, it's a necked down .308 cartridge. You can buy different grain weights tho, so don't be too concerned about kick.
A 22 can kill a fox cleanly with one shot IF you are accurate.

A 22. will kill a fox and dont worry about the kick. My grandfather shoots a 270 and he says its no worse. Sure its a little more than a 22 but by the time you've shot its over.

A 270 has alot of recoil compared to a 22. A 22 will kill a fox. Many trappers carry 22 to kill fox or anyother animal.

A .270 has significantly more kick than a .22. You can easily adjust to the recoil with practice. Yes, a .22 will kill a fox.

A .22 WILL kill a fox in a pinch but it's not what a responsible humane hunter would use. Not a good choice at all
.
Now, on the other end, .270 is a bit much for fox at close range......and something tells me you don't have a lot of experience at longer range shooting.

The .270 has considerably more recoil than the .22, however you can find "low recoil" loads. Don't be worried about recoil....it's over-rated!

My wife is 5"3' and less weight than you (like she wouldn't kill me if I told people what she weighs on Yahoo!) and she shoots her "left-handed .270" just fine, but she's had a bit of practice.

If these are your two choices...go with the .270.

Is this a pest fox or are you actually going hunting him? If he's coming in to look for chickens or your pet cat, blast him with whatever you got. I have a gray fox problem in my neighborhood right now. I didn't even know these things existed until I saw one....shorter and more cat-like than red fox.....and they like to eat little dogs.

If you want a great Varmint rifle get a 222, 22 Hornet, 218 Bee or 22-250 .*** If you want a Deer rifle & Varmint rifle that does both get a 30-06 because you have a large amount of different bullet weights to choose from whether your hunting Deer or Varmints.** When you have a 30-06 you will never need to buy another rifle.** Yes the 22 Long Rifle will take a Fox, however only if you properly place your shot correctly & accurately.** I believe you could handle the recoil of the 30-06 comfortably.**

Yes, a 22 can kill a fox. The 270 does kick a bit; you can get what is called a limbsaver slip on recoil pad that takes the bite out of it.

The .270 Winchester is a .30-06 necked down to .27 caliber. Two popular commercial loads are the 130 grain that has a recoil index of: 16.5 lbs. The other popular commercial load is the 150 grain round with a recoil index of: 17.0 lbs.

The .243 Winchester is a necked down .308 (necked down to .24 caliber); the 100 grain bullet has a recoil index of: 8.8 lbs. and the 75 grain bullet: 7.2 lbs.

If you want a .270 it does have more recoil than the almost non-recoil of the .22 rimfire so just use the 130 grain bullets and hold it firmly against your shoulder. You'll soon get used to it and come to believe that it has no recoil at all. Or get the .243 instead.

Best.

The 270 caliber is a much larger caliber than 22 when it comes to felt recoil (270 being higher recoil compared to a .22LR)). I think that a little experience will show you that you can handle a 270 just fine with a little practice. The 270 caliber is a perfect caliber for Deer by the way....

As far as the .22 Long Rifle and killing Foxes are concerned, I won't argue that it's the gun of choice, if you had others to choose from, but there are several dozen of them sleeping the "BIG" sleep right now because of me and a 22 Long Rifle Hollow Point "TAP" to the head. (And it didn't take several shots either) As long as they are under 50 yards and you can consistently hit a tin can at that distance, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take the shot...

you can handle a 270 if you shoot it right. but it kicks a heckuvalot more than a 22. a 22 will kill a fox easy. don't use a .270 to go fox hunting, there will be no fox left.

A .270 kicks alot harder than a 22..... a whole lot harder... at 130 pounds you might want to try a .243.... and yes a 22 with a couple shots can kill a fox 2 or more shots......
