From my experience, it seems like the number one denomination that produces the most atheists is Pentecostal / Word Faith / NAR (New Apostolic Reformation). The reason for this is because they teach that you must speak in tongues, heal sick people and raise dead people if you are really a Christian. Many, it seems, are able to lie to themselves...that they have these gifts and are able to speak to and hear God outside of the Bible but there are also many who realize that these are lies and they decide that the Bible must not be true...because they are taught incorrectly to believe that the Bible is something it is not. Almost ALL teens and young people, while attending high school, college and/or university, go through a stage where they put Christianity out of their minds and don t practice it at all but those who grew up in Lutheran, Presbyterian and/or Anglican usually return to Church and belief in the true Gospel.

I'm curious which denomination it is which you claim is similar to SDA since I don't know of any group which is similar to SDA.

To answer your question I would guess Roman Catholic, Lutheran, United Methodist, United Church of Christ.

There are many atheists in those denominations who are still active members.

Its also been estimated by some that 80% of the Baptist kids raised in the Bible belt are leaving the church, abdoning Christ when they get to college.

I grew up Methodist... I know that the denomination that produced the most Methodists in my congregation was Catholicism.

I'm inclined to suspect that Catholicism has donated more than a few people to atheism as well.

It's got to be the Catholics as they've been around the longest, although the Fundamentalists I'm sure are currently producing more if their comparatively smaller numbers are taken into account.

Catholic -- simply by the fact that 50% of all Christians are Catholic. Interestingly, they have also created the most Protestants.

Well, I was Catholic. I kind of lean towards Catholicism as they have a good educational system. Education leads to logic which leads to Atheism.

I'd say Catholic or just about any Evangelical. Most atheists I know were either Catholic, Pentecostal, or Methodist.
