The problem isn't the litter as it is what your
feeding your kitten. The usual grocery store
cat food is full of by products. Which is to
say its a very low quality food which results
in stinky poop. Switch to a human grade cat food
& the stink will go away. Your kitten will be much
healthier. Felidae is high quality food found
in pet stores.

What is it that stinks, the urine or the poop?
I use crystal litters (a variety of brands) and I never smell the urine!
If you are smelling the poop, you just need to clean it out as you smell it.
If you do not like the idea of the Crystal litters, I know that Fresh Steps newest litter (with carbon) has won awards for best at eliminating odor. I also know that many people recommend Arm and Hammer.
For me and my cats, its crystal litters all the way!
PS I have two cats and, as I said, I use the crystal litters. I scoop the poop out whenever they poop and stir the litter whenever I clean out the poop. I only have to replace the litter once every 10-15 days! That's for TWO cats! (We do have second box, but they rarely use it.) So, it does *seem* pricier when you buy it, but it lasts much longer and completely controls urine.

I use a scoopable litter. I found that the urine sunk to the bottem in the clay litters and it keept a smell. I buy the cheap scoopable litter as it clumps the urine so you can get rid of both the poop and the urine to help reduce the smell. I also have a closed in litter box with a filter and sometimes airfresheners, but since I started using the scoopable litter the smell has been greatly reduced. I also pour baking soda on the bottem of the pan to help additionally with smells.

LISTEN TO THIS ANSWER>>>>IT IS THE BEST
Fresh step scoopable that comes in a box is the absolute best. It is expensive (about ten dollars a box) but works wonders. There is also some deodorizer from arm and hammer you can get in the pet section. It costs about 2 dollars. It helps as well. I went through this because I had a cat that had IBS and diarrhea all the time so I really know. If I could I would do commercials testifying for this cat liter. It is awesome.

Swheat Scoop kitty litter is the only litter my cats use. It is made from ground wheat. It is perfume and dye free but controls odor wonderfully!!
Unfortunately, some clumping litters can be harmful to cats. Clay based clumping litters can contain the mineral sodium bentonite, which can be harmful or fatal to your cat. It is best to avoid using clay based cat litters, especially with kittens.
Wheat or corn based clumping litters such as Swheat Scoop work very well and are non-toxic.

Well considering you didnt mention what kinds you have tried, I dont want to tell you something you have already used. The only thing I can tell you though, is that you want to get a litter that clumps, and that says it is odor absorbing. You might also want to try getting one that says for multiple cats, that kind right there is for obviously reducing the smell from multiple kitties. If nothing is working you might want to go to a pet store and explain your issue, they may have something special out there for ultimate urine smells. Or you could call any vet's office and tell them about it, they could advise you as to what might work. It might just be your cat. As far as cost effective litter. Sweetie there isnt any way you are going to be able to get out of this one because of the fact that pets can be expensive especially when they have certain needs like this one it sounds like. The only thing you can do is try to cut something else financially.

have a 13 week old, hadher when she was 2
she loved clay litter (which is good for cats), but i found that she hated natural litter (which is bad because i loved it)
if you're worried about the smell, try to get some odor litter and mix a little bit with your current, if the smell continues, switch to a whole other litter (i know, waste of money), but it'll be worth it

Fresh Step. Freshens with every step!
One of my 4 still prefers the clay kind, but I have the clumping kind in another box and the others like it better, and it is easier to clean. Just make sure if you're going to use it, that your cat doesn't ingest much of it (gets stuck in their toes and they lick it and it sits in their stomach and they get sick). I have heard of that problem but not experienced it, so I think it's ok.

the best one is the crystal one, it is dearer, around $8 a bag. You can get some at the Reject Shop and it is $5 a bag, and is still great. It aborbes the smell and i still clean it out once a day. try the crystals and let me know how you go.
