AMERICAN DEFINED

1. Of or relating to the United States of America or its people, language, or culture.

2. A native or inhabitant of America.

3. A citizen of the United States.

Question:

1. Would you want 6 million + coming to Ireland (or your country wherever you may be) and demanding everything be in Spanish?
2. Would you want to accomodate 6 million in your public schools, hospitals, and social programs - and YOU pay for it with YOUR taxes, but they pay nothing?
3. How does your country handle illegal aliens?

FO - If you want to debate, bring it on. Much easier for you to "ignore", and be "ignor"ant instead though I guess.
Whatever.
How many times do I have to define "American" for you?

If I invite you to my home, I would expect you to make yourself comfortabe, contribute, and together we adapt to each other.

If you BREAK IN to my home, and expect me to accomodate you, I'd be upset.

Illegal immigrants are BREAKING IN to America, and expecting us to change for them, instead of living in our America the way it is. You reallyhave no clue.

The Spanish to Ireland LEAVE when school is over, and they don'e demand you pay for them while they are there!

But go ahead and ignore - you are so much better than me anyway, right?

'come on, debate! Don't be afraid!!

(And I do not know Sarge by the way)

as somebody with a lot of connections to and who's familiar with the emerald isle I beg to differ with FO.
Ireland has experienced a phenomenal rate of immigration -relative to her existing population size over the past 7-8years.

Most Irish I know are extremely concerned at the consequences - but, like the US and UK, the media there refuses to give fair voice to the majority views.

F.O. you should know that language is hugely important issue. since independence the Irish State has tried to revive the Irish and still retains it as an official language -but thanks to immigration I believe Polish is now in reality Ireland's second and followed by mandarin Chinese - so you should know better than to mock a 'Yanks' concern about linguistic issues - As a European you should be aware that language is a hugely divsive issue in countries such as Belgium, etc

Your views belong to an unrepresentative section of Irish society as they would be in America.

That very sweet of you. I will answer your question. (1) We have people coming from other countries to live here. (2) We have two languages here. Irish and English. (3) We have a Strong identity nor do we feel threaten. Maybe it because we are lot older nation long before the US was discovered. Since my country is a member of the EU that mean just try, explain some EU laws here. Those who are fellow EU citizens are free to live and work here. Plus they are entitled to free health care and free education like every other citizen here. Just as I am in entitled to the same in their country. I do pay taxes. You should see Dublin in the summer full of Spanish students coming here to learn English. I don't have a problem with it. In fact we have Polish, Russian, Lithuanians etc. Now next point: How do you define Americans? Does language define who an American? There is no one definition of an American. If immigrants to the USA do not speak perfect English. Does that make them less American? Another point is: First, America may have been the melting pot when most immigrants were of European descent. They were more able to assimilate into American society because they were all White. Next time don't ask me a question again ok! Your the type who can't have a debate without insulting others. Just because they don't happened to agree with everything you say. Slán=Bye PS your on my ignore list. It's not worh debating with you. You need your little pal Sarge to back you up. Big boy you are!

FO: I'm surprised to hear that your little island nation is so sanguine with the idea of being overrun and culturally erased by foreign immigrants - considering the long, brutal, and only recently ended conflict with that neighboring island that tried the same thing a few centuries ago...

I'm sure other countries are not as generous as the United States. We taxpayers of the U.S. have about had enough of the free housing, free food stamps, free medical care, and free education for these illegals. They have sucked our government teat for too long. Build the fence. Kick them out. We have Americans born here (and not anchor babies either) that could use a helping hand. Not the illegals.

FEIS ORT is from another country, and can not possibly understand what we in Southern California are dealing with.

Think how happy they would be if 5 million English decided they wanted to change Ireland into England...oh, that's right...they shoot them in Ireland don't they?

Nevermind.
