do you think that in 100 years our youth will stand behind chistian apologetics like:
"well, you have to understand, when god told the jews that the rapists had to marry their victims it was because back in that day women were seen as unclean and that way they were still able to get married"
or "well, those food laws were god's way of keeping the jews from eating poisous foods back then. I mean, i suppose god could have told the jews it was for specific medical reasons why not to eat those things, but they were so primitive back then, so it makes sense that, for all the jews could figure, they were arbitrary commands"

It seems to me that the only reason why todays apologetics even remotely fly with some younger people is that their parents (who are from a much more religiously conservative era) are there to better control their thoughts.
I just can't see things being the same 100 years from now.
not with independent thought growing as much as it has these last few years.

I'm inclined to agree, except there's a pretty vibrant fundamentalist Christian community that, I would suspect, sets your theory back a generation or two. Compare the social/political views of 60-year-olds in Berkeley to 40-year-olds in the Midwest and 20-year-olds in Utah. Progress, such as it is, moves at different rates in different subcultures.

This kind of apologetics has ceased to fly a long time ago. "Independent thought" has been on the rise since the end of the Middle Ages, and has given birth to the Reformation, along with modern science, art, and social theory as we know it.

For a better apologetics, see NT Wright's "Simply Christian", CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity", Lee Strobel's "The Case For Faith", and Francis Collins' "The Language of God".

Once the bible is tossed aside (as it stands to reason it will) another religious doctrine will replace it, and there will be no need for such apologetics. I´m not sure if that will happen in as little as 100 years though.

good question...i have pondered the same thing before. however, you might just think that society is becoming more progressive simply because you chose to hang around people who are progressive. you interact with people who share similar viewpoints and ignore those who dont.(its totally normal). i think that the truth is there is still far too many people who believe certain things ONLY because thats what their parents raised them to think....its sad but true. further more there will always be people that are mixed in there opinions,(e.g) there are lots of christians who are racists, or s.u.v. drivers who care about the enviroment or conservatives who pro choice and liberals who are against immigration....and so on and so on. decide what matters to you and try to make a difference...and you will!
