Pasta always goes a long way and is filling and inexpensive. Ham is cheapest around Easter and Turkey around thanksgiving so pick your meat by the season. Add cheese and buns bought at a warehouse store. To all this you can add platters of raw veggies and cut up fruit with dips purchased at the local farmers market.

To help save on the cost, meat platters are good. Sometime when you go to the deli find out how much it will cost for the meat, or if they were to make up the platter how much it will cost.
Chicken parts is always good, you can buy them in bulk at Costco or BJ's. Veggie platters also the same way.
Bj's has a lot of good bulk horse'oderves (sorry for the spelling) that are frozen that are good, and they also have different frozen items as far as chicken, pork and other meats that you may want to check out. I find when you are on a budget, and you are doing a dinner reception sometimes you can you to the outlet stores and save!!!!

My Wedding is on an extremely low budget. We are making meat trays and cheese trays with crackers. Just enough to get some food in their bellies before they start drinking.

How About:
Dinner Rolls
Salad or Soup
Baked Ziti
Sausage & Peppers
It is a wedding after all, so you don't want to serve sandwichs. Try grabbing a cheese tray w/crackers for appetizer/cocktail hour if there is one.
