I have a chase credit card for school, that i recently paid off completely. Today i got a bill for 600$, because somebody made cash advances. My account has been switched and the old card cancled. My question is, how will they know who comitted the crime, and will i have to pay for them?
I have a feeling it was my little sister, as she has been walking around with loads of money, shes done it before, but i dont want her in trouble because she my sister.
Also how will they prove its her?

Cash advances typically happen from ATM machines, which have cameras. However, if you are not willing to let them press any charges against her and make her responsible for credit card theft and the balance due then they will make you responsible for those charges.
My sister and one of her friends did this to my parents a while back. My parents did not want to have any charges pressed against my sister, and the credit card company said that either they go after my sister and her friend, or my parents take responsibility for the charges.
I can understand your position, but I would make her responsible for the balance due, even if you have to pay the credit card company initially. She needs to be held accountable for her actions.
Good luck!!

Call the credit card company immediately and report that your credit card number is being fraudulently used. They will put a hold on the card and issue you a new one with a new number. I would also suggest contacting the three credit bureaus and getting a fraud alert attached to your credit history. The credit card company or your bank should know what to do. As for the phone sex charge, I would dispute it. Generally you get the charge removed if they determine you were not the one doing it. On the other hand, sometimes the charges that show up on a credit card statement are kind of screwy and don't seem to bear any relationship to our lives. The credit card company will investigate what company actually put the charge on it. It may be that it IS a company you did business with. I've had that happen myself. Good luck!

Well I'm thinking that if it's a cash advance, then it had to be done at a bank or an ATM....
Tell her a phony story like "Hey, the bank called me and said they had video of YOU using my credit card at the ATM..." see what she says or see how she reacts....
If she fesses up, then strike a deal with her...asking her to pay you back the money...
YOU ON THE OTHER HAND, need to either hide your cards better or get tough and press charges....otherwise you send the message that it's okay for her to steal off of you like this...and sisters shouldn't do things like that....
What you could also do is to get yourself some kind of credit card insurance so that if this happens again, you won't be responsible to pay it back...I mean look at it this way...if you're going to let your sister run up a credit card bill like you have...then what could you lose by paying a small fee to have the card insured, right?
I hope you get this problem resolved....good luck

Q. will i have to pay for them?
A. If you authorized someone to use your card at all, you are responsible for all their charges. If you did not authorize the person to use your card your card AND you reported that unauthorized use was happening as soon as you became aware of it, you are not responsible for anywhere near $600. You might have to pay $50.
Q. My question is, how will they know who comitted the crime, and ... Also how will they prove its her?
A. They might have a videotape of the transaction, especially if it was at an ATM machine. If the person had to sign for the cash, they could use the handwriting or fingerprints.

Prior to calling your bank you must have a talk with your little sister. Ask her if she knows, explain the consequences. A young mind functions quite differently than an adult and most children will speak the truth.
The bank will investigate the report and they are experts in their fields. For example, a hidden camera can show who made the transaction, a signature and/other methods of tracking. Please, speak to your sister now and ask her where/how she obtained the money. She may not know the value of $600.00. For example, ask her if she had $600.00 what/how would she spend it.
If she took it....tell her she is responsible for her actions, otherwise she will continue this negative route, you will be the enabler and you will never forgive yourself. It is strictly up to you. This, is a serious matter for both of you. Good luck.

The credit card company will go back to where the transactions took place. ATMs have cameras. The thief had to at least sign something.
If they do determine it was your sister who made the charges, they will go after her. Or they may decide you are involve and insist you pay it, especially if you don't want your sister prosecuted.
Did you make a police report?
In any case, you should be more careful with your credit card.

I deal with these domestic issues everyday. You have two options. File a police report, and if it is your sister, you must press charges or pay the bill. Most banks will send out an assumption if she wants to take responsibility for the debt she charged up in your name, but....She must be willing to sign that assumption and pay the bill. Call Chase and ask for the fraud department phone number. Good luck.
