First you do not state what form of Arthritis? You state a bad Arthritis problem but it is just a single joint, or have you been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Lupus...... Doctors will or should only prescribe based on symptoms, so no point in demanding anti-inflammatory drugs if you do not need them. As for stomach problems? I have been on the same anti-inflammatory drug since 1994 and to date have not had any stomach problem, but I am careful to only take it with food.

It may be the doctor feels that you don't need prescription medication yet. I think you should consider asking for a second opinion if you feel you are not being taken seriously.
Aspirin, parcetemol, and ibrupofen are cheaper to buy over the counter than on prescription.
There are many other things other than medication which help greatly with arthritis. You shouldn't overlook them.
Arthritis Care has a free helpline if you need some independent support and information.

This is an increasingly common situation isn't it where the patient is basically telling the doctor which medication they should be prescribing. Perhaps the doctor with their medical training, knowledge and experience has considered no medication to be appropriate in this situation.
If however you know best, go to the chemist and buy some yourself or from the internet if you are after prescription medication without a prescription.

Because you have had stomach problems in the past. None of these meds come without side effects. Ibuprofen alone can cause ulcers if taken to often.

Cosh him over the head with a heavy, blunt object. Steal his prescription book, find a copy of his signature (so you can forge it) and RUN!
Then you can try whatever you like! =)
How about changing doctor or asking for a second opinion on your condition?

the doctors are there to help and they usually know what is best for you so if he/she says know that may be the best for you ask your docter what he would prescribe and go from there.
