I just just finished reading a question where some people replied that atheists don't exist. Are we considered non existant because we refuse to believe in a higher power? Are we shunned now?

Oops you're right I did accidentally misspell atheist. I guess all this bad spelling on yahoo answers is rubbing off on me.

It was simply a dig at the questioner's spelling.
Atheists there are (aplenty around here).
Athiests, ateists, Atiests... we're less sure about.

But I'm very fond of grils.

These are the thoughts and words or arrogant and ignorant fundies.
Just because their delusion occupies so much space and time in their brain stem and life they 'know' that if they were free, as we are, it would leave a large hole; they find it impossible to understand how anyone could live with such a hole.

They don't understand that when you cut free of the shackles of religious enslavement there are no holes to fill.
This notion is beyond their ken.

This is why they can’t believe that we exist – they believe that we ‘choose’ to deny ‘god’ – they don’t understand that we came to a conclusion cos they was no evidence to support any believe in the invisible sky guy.

It's because most religious people cannot imagine their own lives without their belief in God, nor can they imagine what not believing would be like for anyone else.

If they can't imagine it, then it can't happen. Much like they can't contemplate the thought of their own non-existence after death.

We could just as easily say religious people don't exist because they're subconsciously willing to relinquish the idea of an imaginary God but don't act on it.

I saw the heading and thought this post was a joke. I guess not.

Why wouldn't atheists exist?

According to some theists, atheists are (supposedly) people who hate God.

By the same argument you could argue that anyone who claims not to believe in Santa Claus really hates Santa Claus.

Blue bonnets only grow in the state of Texas.

The flower that is called the bluebonnet in Texas, in any other state is called by a different name. You could say that the bluebonnet doesn't exist in any other state except Texas.

edit:

An atheist says that God doesn't exist, so, if what they say is true, then people don't exist either.

I think it's a mix of ignorance and the belief that they're superior to everybody that makes them say that.

"I don't believe in people who don't believe in my god!!!!" - sounds a little stupid, don't you think?

I don't really care if people don't believe in me...

They think that we are "closet" Christians that are just too afraid to admit the truth. Stupid huh?

maybe they were trying to antagonize the unbeliever of Christ by not believing in them.
Funny though.
