Okay...I'm somewhat of a movie nut and I'm reminded of a movie (forgot the title but I'm sure SOMEONE will note it) where a guy and his "date" are in a hotel room. She's ready...he's ready. She's getting close to him...kneels down...and says "tell me those three little words I want to hear". He freaks out because he's thinking she wants to hear "I love you". Which, of course, is NOT what she had in mind (she tells him the three words as the elevator door is closing). Having something to do with her doing something specific with a part of his anatomy.

Anyway...where were we? Obviously, too much catnip for the evening and my mind is wandering again.

3 words? (a bit of license if you will) You make the assumption that "God" equals religion and the practice of said religion. Do you take into account the many FALSE gods out there (greed, lust, power, hatred, violence, intolerance, etc, etc)? I would have to make the statement that you can't be completely "free" of the one true God unless you are the slave of any number of the false gods...and that you can't be "free" of the false god(s) unless you have placed your trust and faith in the love and mercy of the one true God.

But, that's MY belief. Your mileage may vary.

Oh, and sorry for jumping in on this question, but it was so attractively worded that I felt compelled to join in. Hope the presence of a Christian wasn't too offensive.

Religious view on this question. I can help Atheists understand in one word what it feels like to be free of sin:

Indescribable!

Chicky: Those who believe in a God is responsible for everything that they do!

Religion makes people happy...they become afraid by the idea that maybe they aren't immortal, or that they may never see their deceased loved ones again in the "afterlife." The idea of God gives comfort to the poor, the grieving, etc.

I would rather go with science and philosophy...there is freedom in knowledge.

I'm not an atheist however you shouldn't take the word of an atheist, you should make your own judgement about god.

I'm not an atheist, but if their belief were true, then all the lives that were ever lived, will one day be like they've never happened. In fact, when this world comes to an end, it would be like it never happened. Same with the universe. We came from nothing, when we die, we go back to nothing, and we're not even going to know we died. The emotions we feel, the love we share, it means nothing because there's nothing beyond the physical world that supplied it.

I don't know how believing this stuff would ever make a person feel like they're "free".

"Like 'No Apollo'"
or
"One less god"

(To elaborate: There are thousands and thousands of other deities from countless different religions over the centuries. Christians go about their day and even the most extreme times in life without thinking about about gods like Apollo, or Isis, or Thor. Likewise, I go about my day and even life's roughest times without thinking about deity. It just doesn't fit into the equation.)

Think. Think. Think.

Err why are there so many Christians claiming they were atheists? We know it's bullsh|t, most atheists were Christians because they're parents were Christian.

How about I'll just say I was an atheist turned Christian who is now atheist again. There, how about that?
