I'm in the states with a cultural exchange program. My visa expires next december, but after that I would like to join the Navy, Army, Airforce or Marin Corpse as an officer. I have a degree from college and completed other courses. What should I do to get a job if I'm not a resident. Can they help me to get the visa or something? If not, what should I do?

Obviously, talk to a recruiter and find out what jobs are available and if you qualify.

I was Navy for 20 years, so I best not tell you which one to pick. I am biased as ever.

It's up to whatever you want to do. The Army and Marines are going to be on the ground, fighting - their training is a lot of physical work. The Navy and Airforce are more technical "brain" work. Understand that you won't be an officer unless you have a college degree. And that all services and jobs offer the same pay (it's based on rank and time in) and benefits.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can be an officer unless you are a US Citizen. I am not 100% sure this is accurate, but I have a buddy who spent 8 years in the Army after getting his BA. He wasn't allowed to be an officer until after he became a citizen.

But...military service sure wouldn't look bad on your citizenship application.
