Am I allergic to mosquitoes? Everytime I get bit by a mosquito it swells and I start itching. I was bitten by a mosquito this morning on my back near my left shoulder. Now the muscles where my shoulder and neck connect are sore, I have a very small bump to the right of the bite, and a larger sore bump on the front part of my shoulder.

Everyone gets this reaction. To know if you are allergic, I would make an appt. with your dr. to discuss, but a reaction might be hives, swelling of eyes, throat, which can be dangerous, it's called anaphylactic shock. In order to correct that, you need to carry an epinephrine pen with you...if you have no hives or any other type of swelling than beyond the bite, you probably aren't. Although, if you start feeling flu like symptoms I would definately go to the doc and have him/her check for west nile virus.

You can put anti itch lotion, baking soda paste (baking soda & water paste) on the bite to alleve the itching.

You could be allergic to them but im pretty sure thats what happens to everyone. However if the bite becomes bigger and starts to hurt alot then the mosquito may have given you a bot fly larva.

Sounds more like a yellow jacket bit you. That's how I felt after getting stung by one of those.
