Your dog is OK. My dog Sage eats whole squirrels all the time. She is OK and is never sick.
There is no vet in my town, so Sage doesn't have vaccinations either.

what type of canine do you've? Does he ever get close to to the squirrels? i'd say if this is a classic performing squirrel this is not any vast deal, even if he's bitten. My canine replaced into actual bitten by utilizing a squirrel. he's spend hours and hours outdoors gazing and stalking the squirrels (he's a chicken canine, so element and watch were extra on the time table than chase). They were given used to his presence and that i guess he progressively crept closer and closer till he nabbed one. he's a large infant so he got here operating in to inform us. He had slightly chew on his cheek. each of the squirrels left the realm. (i imagine the only he nabbed were given away, too.) I observed as the vet and they reported it replaced into nice. did not even imagine it replaced into had to seem at him. for sure, this is probable a sturdy idea to call the vet, in case there is comments of rabies interior the realm. If he enjoys it, I say enable him pass. this is sturdy workout and makes use of his brains. no longer only senseless fetching or something. Squirrels are sensible. there is in worry-free words a small danger he will actual seize one.

The dog was not up to date on her rabies shot. While it is unlikely your dog will suffer any harm, it is not a good idea to assume since she is a backyard dog she does not need a rabies shot every three years.
You also don't say if she is tested for heartworm every year and gets the heartworm pill. An outdoor dog is especially at risk of heartworm.

One can never be TOO careful in this situation. May want to have the dog tested even though the squirrel wasnt visibly rabid (or had worms, etc)

Generally not. One of my dogs has killed gophers, moles, rats and even an oppossum that wandered into her run (not a very smart possum). As long as vaccinations are current and the dog was not injured in the scuffle, it should be fine.

The dog should be O.K. my dalmation hunted mice out of our barn for years but I would be careful when he kills a pest. My dalmation killed mice for years but while I was away at college she suddenly got sick and died. My parents said she acted like she had been posined. We found out later a neighbor had been putting rat posion out around his house and we believe a posined mouse made it to the barn where it met my dog. Since then that neighbor doesn't use posins anymore.

I do not like dogs, so i sympathize with any squirrel that kills one. Unfortunately there is not one that ever managed to do that.

Nope, the vet said unless the animal has rabies.. If your dog kills something and eats it fresh odds of it getting something are very very slim.. My dog shakes the crap out of bunnies and moles.. Doesn't eat them, but we wanted to find out for sure in case she decides that she did want to eat them. Not a problem says the vet.. Dead road kill, you don't want your dog to eat.

No she'll be fine. She just got lucky!! And this will probably make her want to go after sqirrels even more now. But health wise, nothing will happen to her.
