if they were the fine hard working people that they are supposed to be, why dont they stay in their own country and work hard to bring the standard of living up to our standards. instead of running away to get easy money here in england?

Because of the benefits they can claim, even if they are working.

I agree with you, that if they are as good as they say, why isn't their country a rich and prosperous place.

Who's idea was it? The idiots running the EU, who decided an open-boarder policy would be a good idea. Well, it is a good idea, unless you live in the UK. People come here because they get free healthcare, free benefits, and free housing the moment they set foot on our soil. And did you see the news at the weekend? The French are telling us we should accept all the illegal immigrants at Calais, just because many of them are from commonwealth countries etc. But they are commonwealth countries, France, which means they have no need to leave - we give them millions in aid a year. It's not our fault they can't do anything with it. The economic mess we are in now is not hte fault of immigrants, The problem is that those from the EU are free to bugger off whenever they want, so they leave whenever there is a hint of economic trouble. This leaves us lacking a huge percentage of the work force in some trades, which then exacerbates the economic situation there. We are only a small country, and we don't have any more space. Where I live, the government is forcing our council to build all along the Thames - on a flood plain for God's sake! This is idiocy beyond belief. Perhaps if we allowed less immigrants in, and encouraged our own population to have less children, we wouldn't have to build homes on land that will get flooded every five years, and when times get hard as they are now, it would make it easier to find jobs for the unemployed, because there would be more demand.

Their countries are poor, their wages are low, they seek to improve their lives and who can blame them? We would all do the same thing. The problem is, and it's a big one, is that no other member of the EU has a free welfare system. As a fellow EU member I cannot go to any other member state and be given a free translator or a free benefit advisor. I cannot be given priority for housing, I cannot claim benefits for my children that remain in the UK. I cannot receive free medical treatment, unless pre-arranged by some official form. Were I to take a job from a national of that country I would probably be railroaded out. If I offered to work below the wages of the indigenous worker there would be uproar and accusations of unfairness whilst the employer would be rubbing his hands at my cheap labour. Eastern European countries are now in crisis because they do not have enough people to do necessary jobs. Is all well and good saying these people do the jobs the Brits wont do, it is not about doing the jobs but doing them for a pittance! A fair wage and lower welfare benefits would go a long way to correcting this. Yes the "Empire" has a lot to do with what is happening, yes it had greed and power as its driving force but none of it was done in my name.... I do not hold todays Germans responsible for WW2, it is history, and whilst it may have shaped nations, it is in the past, we need to look at the here and now and the future.

No you are right. Im not against anyone myself. It is totally the governments fault for opening the floodgates. Human nature targets our anger at the immigrants themselves, wrongly so, but we do. This is not going to help their own countries as they are just deserting the problem, it needs to be dealt with.
I have had first hand experience of the implications this issue throws at us.
i used to work for an agency and 90% percent of the workers were either polish or other origins. Its is killing our economy. many of my co-workers were replaced by migrant workers. the government and employers are taking advantage of cheap labour.
Making this country eu friendly was a bad choice. I am not racist by any means. I am one quarter polish myself, my grandfather was polish who settled here after the war. you could easily turn the tables on me and say i should not be here. my parents are english.
Regardless to this i just feel that things have gone way too far now. britain is tiny. its full enough as it is.
the government is solely to blame

The trouble is for every good foreign worker there are several spongers and yobs that tag along. Their Families tend to be larger and younger than the average UK household . Immediately they qualify for benefits and Free Medical etc so it puts a heavy burden on the infra structure. Supplementary pensions are often more valuable that State Pensions because it offers other benefits that can be drawn upon without charge. Illegals are a source of cheap cut-throat labour exploited to put bigger profits in the hands of Crooked employers. They will never grow up to be patriots. Some have openly declared war on our people and have declared and definite aims to harm and force us into a direction of their choice. Intimidation through Terror is having its affect.

Do you call working 60 hours a week in a stinking chipper "easy money"? I'm not Eastern European, I'm Belgian by birth, but I've lived in Ireland for a while and worked with a lot of Polish and Czech people there. You won't find any harder-working people than those I've worked with.

The stupid jobs nobody wants, that's what foreigners get, and then people complain that they're taking the jobs away. They're only filling in the jobs that no one in their right mind would want unless they were starving! Trust me, I've been there!

I do not mind who comes hear to UK.But the old adage comes to mind .When in Rome, enough said.We should be proud of the Multicultural society we have.I also think that Government should set their priorities and put their own electors first ,Then deal with Europeans whom want to set up a life in the UK.We seem to be unable to make up our minds when it comes to issues along these lines. It was a new Millenium 7 tyIntegrationrs ago.Man should be free to roam any where on this planet .Integration is vital. But at what cost and I am not talking financially.I mean morally.

Wages are good in Britain and there are plenty of jobs which British people don't want (e.g. collecting bins and driving buses). If you have aspirations to earn minimum wage and clean the streets, then I'm sure you could get the job! British companies, e.g. TfL, recruit extensively from Eastern Europe to fill Britain's skills shortage, just as they did in the post-1945 era from the West Indies and Indian sub-continent.

As for "bring the standard of living up to our standards", have you been to Krakow recently? I think you'll find the standard of living is pretty good.

If you don't like it, and I presume you are an EU citizen, there is nothing stopping you working in Denmark, which has an excellent standard of living, low crime, clean streets, etc. Or move to Spain, Italy, Ireland, etc...

Britain has not minded invading others in the course of history, so I say this is fair play. Deal with it, ye whingers!

They come because we are a soft touch, and when did we colonise Poland ?You dozy idiots saying we should read history want to do just that. Any country we colonised we left in good shape. Some wanted independence, they got it. See what a pig's ear they made of it. Ever heard of Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia which was the bread basket of Africa under British rule. The East Europeans should go back to their own country and work to build it up. No they come here because greedy employers know that they will work for a bit less than the indigenous population. Also they get benefits for their family left behind who have never paid a bloody penny into our system. My message to them and their sympathisers is go away, we are full up.
Edit: The clever sods have learnt how to thumbs down ! At least I know some can read .
