I keep the gun in my store for security purposes only. The gun hasn't been used in three years. I know it is overdue for a good cleaning. If anyone knows some good websites and which products I need, I would appreciate it.

Wal Mart and most every sporting goods chain will sell an Outers brand pistol cleaning kit under $10. Just use the solvent on a patch into the barrel and each cylinder, a quick scrub with the brass brush, another patch and then a new patch with oil on it. Wipe a very thin coat of oil all over the metal and then wipe it all down with a paper towell to remove excess.

You need to take that thing out every six months or so and practice!!!

Go to your local sporting goods store, and ask a clerk for a cleaning kit. It should include rods, a handle, cloths, a brass brush, cleaning solvent, and oil.

Open the cylinder and make sure it is unloaded. Take a flashlight and shine through the cylinder "hole", and check the barrel. If there is no gunpowder residue, put a cloth "patch" in the patch holder on the end of the rod, and run it through the barrel a few times to get out any dust. Look in the barrel again to confirm there is no dust or residue in it. Put a couple of drops of oil on a new cloth and put it through the barrel. As you pull it out, twist the rod in slow circles to coat the inside of the barrel. Do this at least twice, and your are ready to re-store the gun. Also, do this same process to the chambers to keep them clean, and to make loading and unloading easier. Then take a clean cloth and wipe the gun frame and outer barrel. I use a silicone cloth on mine, and it keeps the salts from the leather holster I use from damaging the finish.

If you have powder residue that will not come out with a rag, put the "brush" on the end of the rod, put some slovent on it, and run it through the barrel to loosen the debri. Then use clean coth "patches" in and out of the barrel until clean of debri. Oil as previously mentioned, and you are "good to go".

Good luck.

Get yourself a pistol cleaning kit. It will contain every thing you need in the kit plus instruction on how to do it. You can pick up this item in any sporting good store or gunshop. Cost is under $20.

Find a friend or acquaintance who is experienced with firearms and have them give you a "how to" hands on training session on cleaning your 357. All the booklearning and advice is nice; but hands on is hands on. In the service we spent a day having demonstrations on weapon take down and cleaning; followed by several days of hands on practice with somebody at our shoulder. I can take down a Garand and clean it and reassemble it to this day; and I still have it's serial number in my memory.

YOU CAN GET A CLEANING KIT AT ANY GUN SHOP. RUN THE BRASS BRUSH THRU THE BARREL AND CYLINDERS AT LEAST 40 - 50 TIMES. THEN USING THE ROD WITH A CLEANING PATCH SOAK IT IN HOPPE'S CLEANING SOLUTION, DO NOT DUNK IT IN THE BOTTLE POUR IT ON THE PATCH AND THE GUN. RUN THE PATCH THRU THE BARREL AND CYLINDERS. THEN RUN A DRY PATCH THRU THE BARREL AND CYLINDERS. KEEP RUNNING A NEW PATCH THRU UNTILL IT COMES THRU CLEAN. THEN WIPE DOWN THE GUN. THEN PUT A FEW DROPS OF OIL IN MOVING PARTS. THATS IT.

Take it to a gunsmith and let him clean it and check it out for you, then you need to take some gun safety and firearms training courses or the gun will be useless for you if you ever need it. Without the proper training you're not ready for a gunfight.
