You can't rely on pictures people send you. The way your tattoo looks in 10 years is completely up to you. Take proper care of it after you get it, keep it out of the sun (or at least apply sunblock to it) and it will look pretty damn good. Colors also make a difference too- red fades a lot faster than other colors.

Tattoos need 'upkeep' to keep them looking 'I just got it done' looking... I suggest getting them touched up once or twice every 5 years. BUT keep in mind some tattoos look really nice a little bit faded...

my backpiece isn't even two years old but i can tell you that what it will look like years from now almost entirely depends on 1. how well you take care of yourself and your skin and you MUST keep your tattoo out of the sun!!! also 2. the talent of the artist who does the tattoo has a great bearing on how well the tattoo will hold up over time.

tho i haven't even been old enough to have tattoos for 10 years, earlier this year i met a lady who has pretty much a full bodysuit and all of her tattoos looked amazing. she was in her fifties and i actually have a couple of tattoo books that have her tattoos in them from when she was in her twenties. you can tell now that they are older because her skin isn't as firm but the tattoos themselves look great. and i know it is because she has gotten quality tattoo work and kept them out of the sun.

Mine are about fifteen years old, still look great. If you get a little color bleeding you can get them touched up too. I've seen forty year old tats that look pretty bad so they won't look good forever if you don't get them touched up every now and then. But you can keep them looking good your whole life if you invest in them and take good care of yourself and your skin. The worst thing you can do for a back tattoo is get fat and stretch it all out.

back tattoos are trashy and are going to be so out of style in 5 years. Everyone I know refers to them as "tramp stamps" I would reconsider following this horrible trend.
