I am planning a camping trip to Joshua Tree National Park. I love the stars, and I know there is some of the best star gazing in California at Joshua Tree. I know there are several camp sites. Please let me know which you have stayed at and your experience. Any recomendations ... PLEASE and thanks!

I love Jumbo Rocks the best. I've camped at Joshua Tree back when it was a lowly monument. Bring warm clothes and wood for a fire, as nighttime temps can dip down quite a bit. We stayed there once when the temp dropped to 22. We bought better sleeping bags right after that trip!

Just a personal preference, but I'd hit the backcountry. There's a board near Pine City. That area is beautiful. My next trip into the backcountry will be from the board on the Keys View Road. The Juniper Flats board I believe. That looks like a great overnight!

It'll take a little more preparation and fires are prohibited in the backcountry, but it's well worth it in my opinion.
Whatever you choose, have an awesome trip!!! I'm headed out there myself in 2 weeks. Unfortunately no camping this time, probably in the spring.

Haven't camped there. I have hiked there alot. I would contact the park directly. They probably have a website. But you are right. The star gazing is great!

Jumbo Rocks and the surrounding sites are nice but are also very popular and tend to fill up fast. Cottonwood, on the south side of the park tends to be nice and quite - and very, very dark - great for stargazing.
