Striving yes, a million miles away still from His purity.
I only realised the other day if you have bad thoughts (about others - maybe those that have let you down or hurt you), you have (some) badness inside you.
So far I have found mainly hypocrisy and apathy within the ruling classes, greater love and understanding among the poor down and outs, and the concept of FREEDOM, as God portrays, disappearing fast (with most folks unaware of what that means).

I have found that jesus is not the beginning or the end of all things spiritual, neither is he the only sole path to a spiritual life...dispite the rantings of some self righteous christians. The spiritual world is based on much bigger and better things than their narrow mindedness.

And what heights would these be? Religion leads people to depths, not heights. Depths of stupidity, ignorance, violence and perversity.
When I seek heights, I turn to science. It is a candle in the dark, the key to the universe.

i did that for a few years... or thought i did... actually i was striving for heights set by a succession of very fallible humans from Augustine to your Mr Wimber. A labyrinth of pointless blind alleys
those striving to follow Jesus of Nazareth should spend more time thinking about what he did and less about who he is/was

Many are getting "high" on Moses and Jesus, such OT Law and NT Law that's Left and Right of awful lawful God on high; But the Bible clearly exhorts to go on, go higher with Christ of Jesus-->Christ; For Jesus is only the Saviour of Israel, but Christ is the Saviour of the world; Which is to say Grace is higher than Law Law since Law vs Law is Loser vs Loser.
Right of God in heaven: higher than the heavens: Christ
Right of God on high in plural & divided heavens: Jesus
Christ: "peace" and not divided
Jesus: "division" and not peace
Christ: is the end of the law, and of transgression
Jesus: was made under the law, and of woman
Pst: Paul The Apostle gives lots of reasons to go higher:
- ye are not under law(Jesus), but under grace(Christ)
- peace with God is "through Jesus-->Christ"-->God
- mark & avoid them causing "division": Rom 16:17
- mind not high things(like high priests): Rom 12:16
- be not high-minded: Rom 11:20 & 1Tim 6:17
- for high-minded is among un-holy: 2Tim 3
- go on unto perfection: Heb 6:1
The GRACE of our Lord J-->C with you-->all. Amen.

I was unaware that anyone, including jesus, assigned any particular 'height' for me to strive for. When did this happen? Was it during Monday Night Football?

there are not many people who demonstrate their beliefs through actions- those who do i admire - i am a non-believer myself so therefore have no heights to strive towards except the ones i set myself

Always. Sometimes my efforts are more whole-hearted than others, but that is my sin and I am working on weeding mediocrity and laziness out of my life.
What I have found so far is what is plainly in the bible: all the rest of that stuff can be supplanted by the comission Jesus gave us: Love one another.
In re my first paragraph, M. Scott Peck once observed that "The opposite of love is not hate. It is laziness." I'm afraid that is borne out in my life.

I have found that I have yet to hit those marks, and never will. That's why I need a savior so bad. We can't do it on our own. On the other hand, if there were never any marks set for us, then life would be anarchy.
