Would you want to have the camps restored for historical value or would you want them DESTROYED...out of pure resentment?
The reason I am asking is because Bush just signed an executive order to have something like 38 million dolars of grant monies, to unidentified private companies and also some state organizations..ie the (Oregon Parks and Recreation) to restore WWII internment camps restored...I don't get it? http://www.nwasianweekly.com/20072601/nation20072601.htm

Top Contributor,
I can understand the need to remember history, so we will not repeat it....but that is why refurbishing these camps right now-???? This makes me extremely nervous! Especially refurbishing all of them, instead of just a few.

A part of the old internment camp at Poston Arizona has been restored and preserved, including the placement of a commemorative monument. As I recall, it was paid for by the Japanese-American Citizens' League. Apparently there are strong feelings among those who lived in and survived the internment to make sure the history of what happened in compliance with Executive Order #6033 will not fade from memory. One of my wife's bridesmaids was born in an internment camp. Since they are the ones who endured the internment, I must go along with their feelings.
As a career military man I am ever mindful of the young men being held in those camps who volunteered to join the Army, form the famous "Nissei Brigade" and carry the fight to the Nazis in World War Two. One of them serves in the U.S. Senate. His name is Daniel Inouye. He may have lost an arm in combat, but it still didn't sour him on this country. Let the grant money be used to burn into the memory of all America the reality of what was done.

My dad, uncle, and grandpa were in an internment camp. Grandpa didn't survive. Santo Tomas in the Philippines, WW 2 .

Equal time and recompensation I say. Make the Japanese kick down for what they did to Americans, then use the money to compensate the victims.

Oh, while they are at it, they can pay to restore the internment camps here as well. They started the whole damned mess !
