I am empty - I haven't eaten much all day! Which thus makes me unhappy.

I must admit as a European I found this an intriguing topic and
phenomenon in what is predominantly an American forum.
It never seemed much of an issue where I grew up.
I suppose it is a logical result of the U.S.A. drifting away from
secular, democratic values and abandoning the great drive
and enthusiasm of their original founders.....who believed in
the country, it's greatness and it's people. shame that's over.
Only partisanship seems important unfortunately.
These days politicians pander to the religious common denominator , pretend to be Christian... afraid to lose votes.
So not fitting into the mold, as an Atheist you are fair game
Free to be spat on and sh*t on, by an emboldened moral
pseudo majority, who themselves are little more than a wayward , hardly respected , somewhat pitiable sect, in the
whole of Christianity, but with some prevalence in the U.S.A..

Because Christians do not read their Bibles. The Word teaches clearly that many living without God are very happy. Some Christians use the tack that you all die in anxiety as a crutch. I am ashamed that they feel this way and troubled that many Christians teach this tripe which is contrary to God's Word.
I humbly suggest again that everyone read Psalm 73. It shows how those of God who suffer sometimes covet those who mock God and are healthy, happy, and die without pain.
But we will all "awake" from this dream one day.

When the leaders of the church are making every effort to keep people in their Christian beliefs, they can never find anything reasonable or good to say about us Atheists.

Because people believe that we can't be happy without religion, and that we can't behave morally. Of course this isn't true, but it's what people believe. There are those who believe we are essentially loose cannons: we have no dogma or anything to tell us how to behave, so we will do whatever we want whenever we want. Again, this isn't true.
Most people in our society are religious, and they don't understand those of us who aren't. What they don't understand, they fear. What they fear, they hate.

For some reason, even though we atheists are generally very good, civic minded citizens and obey the laws, believers fear us more than their imagined devil.
I suppose the fear is evolutionary in nature, like discovering someone is not part of the group and must be killed.
A neuropsychiatrist could provide a better answer than I.

Because theists have no better ideas about how to counter us than ad hominem attacks. We scare them so they resort to play yard taunts.
ADDENDUM
"I have explained this before, true Atheists do not in fact trouble themselves with religion"
Perhaps, someday, you'll get it right. For the real reason we are here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4fQA9mt-Mg

People are always afraid of what they do not understand. And whne the person doesn't even want to learn about what they don't know, then that is truly sad, and that is also true ignorance.

Because a lot of christians are full of themselves and think you have to find god to be happy and that atheist do not conform to societys norm as they choose to see it anyway.
Hope I helped.
