I am preparing to graduate second in my class at Stanford University. I will earn a degree in Biophysics. I have been offered three jobs already, including one in Asia, once I graduate, all of which would pay me six figures with incentive bonuses.

The problem is this : I don't want to work in biophysics.

My new dream is to wrap individual slices of cheese. I don't care how little it pays, or how ridiculous it sounds to others, but I have been thinking long and hard about this, and this is the career path I want to pursue. I feel slightly guilty about spending thousands upon thousands of my parents' dollars, but what's done is done. Nobody can destroy my dream.

How can I ease them into this?

Hello. Well. Sometimes dreams come in many forms. It's great to dream. At least you completed your academic field. You completed what you went out to accomplish. Working at what ever field you want is a choice. The only thing is that if you want to get pay more you will have to go for that high paying job. Sometimes in this lifetime it's difficult to survive in low paying jobs. If you choose to stay in a lower paying rank then that's your choice. Any choice you make in your life today will pay off later in life. The only thing about those high paying jobs is that you can get a better pension and health insurance. You have the chance to make it out there like the rest of those out there. But sometimes life takes a different turn. Good luck in your dream job. Keep on dreaming.

Forget about the cheese. Milking the cow comes out better for you! You will be folding your pants up and turn into an expert! I am telling you that is the best job.
LMAO Best laugh ever!!

I say make a clean break with your parents. You can either fake your death (complicated! Trust me) or just pretend to come out to them and tell them you are eloping with your secret Chilean lover. Either way, considering their emphasis on material things and their disregard for you cheese dreams, they will not be so wrapped up in the money issue.

than maybe u should reconsider how great ur life will be making minimum wage when u can barely pay rent. don't be stupid, if u feel overwhelmed than take a break and have a little vacation time to refocus urself. dont make drastic decisions.

Start by telling them you are gay -- then after the shock of that wears off -- cheese wrapping seems like just such a relief.

That's the best. I had this high powered sales job making $500k, and I left it all to be the guy who put the end tips on shoe laces. Being the cheese wrapper guy would make me envy you.
