I've been a few pounds underweight all my life (about 10 pounds right now) but have always had a problem with a pot belly. It looks like I swallowed a volley ball. Crunches are something I just won't stick to. Is walking effective? If I start and stick with a 30 minute (more?) everyday, can I expect to see that pot belly shrink? And if so, how soon should I expect to see results? Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Helpful Tips for weight loss:

1)A good way to loose weight is to use a calorie counter watch

Keep to a 1,200 food intake

Add 1,200 plus 3,500 (equals one pound of fat) ...and that is the total amount of calories you need to burn each day. Its actually really easy once you start watching the numbers and it doesn't seem like work or exercise. Its just a matter of changing the way you think about loosing weight.

I use this method when i gain some pounds. The first time I did this I went from 168 to 127

2) Most people do not get enough water in their system. Water is your body's principal chemical component, comprising, on average, 60 percent of your weight. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Lack of water can lead to dehydration, a condition that occurs when you don't have enough water in your body to carry out normal functions. To determine if you are getting enough water use this simple formula.. Take your weight, for example 150 pounds and divide by 2. Take your answer which is 75 lbs and change it to ounces, in this case 75 ounces. That is how many ounces of water you need a day. Your body performs mostly on water. If you make sure you get enough water everyday your body will perform at top notch and your body will no longer have the cravings of junk food. You will have a better performing body system to help you work out and feel better thru out your day.

Okay...I only started five Mondays ago and All I do is walk one hour every morning. I wear a calorie counter monitor to loose weight by the numbers. I have already lost two pant size and 27 pounds. I am a woman and have three kids and this is the method I use when I gain weight.. I am now at a size two and everyone is always amazed that I have had three kids. This is what I do below when I throw on a few extra pounds. It always works..No diet pills, no energy drinks..just me walking and getting the water I need. Of course I watch what I eat and the Lean Cuisine meals are great for that since the calories per box are 180 to 380 per box. Just make sure you eat healthy every three to four hours so your body will perform at its max.

Pot belly are usually a sign that you are backed up you need to cleanse your body. Your body is full of toxins and unnatural thing that need to be removed. I use to work for GNC and doing a complete body cleanse will help with the pot belly that is usually a result of bloating and back up in you colon. If you are over 18 I recommend that you cleanse stick to a healthy diet take a multi vitamin and do daily exercise that require a work out in that problem area I could almost guarantee a 5 to 25 pound drop in weight that's all in the belly area depending on how much toxins and build up you have accumulated over the years

if you are underweight perhaps it is because you do not have as much muscle mass? however, if you just joined a gym and are doing cardio, then you are on the right track of getting rid of the pot belly. you will probably have to increase the time you spend running and lifting as your endurance and strength increase to get the desired effects. also, this may take a while, but drastic weight loss is incredibly unhealthy anyway. i'm not sure what the recommendations are, but i think it's somewhere around a pound a week?

Okay. Cut out eating in between meals.
Only eat healthy food and cut down on Carb’s like bread, potatoes, pasta's, rice, cereals, lollies etc. These are the fat making foods.
Don’t add salt to your meals. Cut out soft drinks.
Then walk an hour every morning two hours after a meal and the same in the afternoon.
If you can jog in between both sessions you'll burn even more calories.
You should lose and continue to lose more weight as you go.
If you can cut out your lunch meal and replace it with a protein drink instead that would also help. Available in supermarkets.
As long as you can stay off junk food and eating in between meals. If you have to eat something in between have something like small raw carrots or celery sticks.
Summary:
Choose a cereal low in sugar for breakfast.
Lunch can be a protein drink.
And all normal meals at a normal serve. Cut down on potatoes and only have small portions of these.

It depends on your body type. I have the apple body type so the only thing that worked for me was walking. I am slim every where else, but it there is fat popping out, it would be from my belly. Stay away from refined carbs like rice/pastas. Drink alot of water (one gallon a day) most of the hangy pot belly look is usually water retention. Try it for a month. It worked reallly well for me. Cabbage soups are very good too.
good luck

This'll sound wierd, but when I had my first child my digestive system was all screwed up from the pregnancy and was having trouble with sugars. So I drank a ton of water to help with digestion and ate almost nothing sweet. After about a month I looked and felt much better. edit - forgot to mention I was skinny with the belly still sticking out.

Weight training. There are so many techniques, you'll need to consult a trainer or a book on abs. A bicycle also does wonders.
