I want to get an Associate Degree in Business Administraion. I chose all my classes and they will meet all of the requirements listed in the college's catalog and requirements for the degree. However, when I met with the counselor, she kept pressuring me to transfer and get my Bachelor's Degree... I am not interested in doing this, and I already am doing Business Admin instead of general so I CAN transfer if I wanted to... But she wants me to take extra harder classes to set up for transfer, she says it will still be only 60 units(amount required for the associate degree)... but it will actually end up being more units... My question is: Should I listen to the counselor even though I don't think I will ever transfer(I work full time, and am getting married within the next 2 years, so the associates is going to take me long enough)?

I dont even really need the Associates, and my reasoning for not wanting the Bachelors is that it will take like 3-4 years AFTER I finish the associates... i dont even plan to be working then so it seems stupid to me... and her way i would be taking 12 extra units.

Okay, everyone pressuring me and being rude about it doesnt help. I wasnt planning on going to college at all. I didnt go right after high school, I just started. It is not something that I want to do. So, I am getting my associates and then if I decide i want a bachelors I will take the extra classes then and do it.

It might be a good idea to take the extra classes just in case you change your mind later. I was only planning on getting my AA, but then I decide I wanted a BA. I was happy I did the extra work. I was able to transfer right away and continue my degree.

LISTEN. She is offering sound advice. I had an associates in business & did the same work as others with bachelors and watched them make more money (even after I had more experience). I even had 3/4 the work done toward a bachlors. After a while of receiving NO respect (hard to believe people put so much emphasis on a piece of paper but they do), I finished the degree. Even before my last class was done, I was promoted & have been promoted several more times since. Would not have been promoted if I didn't get the 4 year degree.

You can be an excellent employee and know your stuff, but alot of HR departments won't consider you if you don't have the bachelors (except the government who counts experience the same as education).

convinced, some actual colleges furnish affiliate degrees. It easily signifies that you've managed to earn 1/2 of a Bachelor's degree. As a tactics a the truly worth of your degree, it may be counted upon 2 issues: you're major and the faculty you attended. computing gadget technologies, nursing, and dental hygienist is something truly worth at the same time as and could allow you to earn a good living. Now in case you majored in pharmacy tech, medical assistant, and so on., you easily have a glorified certification. there are a large number of for earnings colleges popping up all in the course of the country. those colleges will exceptionally a lot take all of us with sturdy credit and a pulse. They use the Wonderlic as an admissions evaluation exam and there sole reason behind existence is to make funds and by no skill educate the populous. a number of them are actual authorized. They declare to be occupation concentration. teachers are susceptible and their degrees at the prompt are not nicely respected. once upon a time, earlier college became a top. there changed into no such component as an associates degree. The affiliate degree got here about with the discovery of the Junior college that gave thanks to community colleges. Do i imagine an affiliate degree is as efficient as a bachelor's degree? No, i do not. Do i imagine it truly is a finished wast of time? In some situations, convinced.

You SAY that you don't plan to be working after the 3-4 years it would take you to get the bachelors, but how can you say that for sure? It sounds like you are planning to get married and be a housewife, but how do you know that a) your husband won't be injured suddenly and unable to work or b) that you might get a divorce or c) your husband passes away suddenly? How will you be able to get a job to support yourself and maybe your kids with an associates? It is better to get the bachelors and have the POTENTIAL to earn more money, even if right now you think you won't need it. You never know what could happen in the future.

Listen to your counselor, she is right.

either way wouldnt hurt, she is trying to help you be more successful for your degree, and to get the moset out of the education, i think it is great you are even persuing your associates in business, and i suppose if you want to down the road you will be able to switch it either way, it will just mean doing a little extra when you do if you do it your way. If you really isnt that big a deal to you do what you want to do it is your money, and your life, but as your counseler she is doing her job to help advise you towards whatever will help you acheive the best success! I myself would say if you are getting your associates why not get the full degree incase you need it in the future? but whatever makes you happy! good luck!
