My son was given one round of Singulair at 2 to help combat an asthma attack brought on by a severe cold. He had no side effects.
If you want to know about potential side effects, please ask a pharmacist, don't rely on partial information on here.

my daughter- from about 6 mon to 11 mon- had a million ear infections, brought on by colds she would catch. she doesn't go to daycare- my aunt home-schools her older girls, so she was willing and able to keep my daughter while i worked full time. anyway, she ended up needing tubes, which she got right after her 11 month mark... the pediatricians then put her on singulair AND claritin after the surgery to help her allergies stay at bay, and not so easily catch colds. all three measures have been an absolute blessing... she didn't have any side effects, and she's over 2 yrs old now, still on both, and has hardly had any colds at all or allergy problems, and hasn't had an ear infection in about a year. it's been so wonderful, especially since before all this we were in the doctor's office- literally- every week or two.
you'll hear and read all kinds of stuff, and the labels have to report ALL the cases of things that have happened- even the worst scenarios. as much as you should take caution to these, understand that they are more rare cases than not.

My daughter now 3 1/2 Has been on singular for over a year and we have had no side effects. We tried everything for her allergies and this was the only thing that has worked she also takes with it Zyrtec. Yes we have mild allergy symptoms but nothing like before she could not function for coughing and blowing her nose. My doc is waiting until she is 4 to change her meds to a nose spray that he thinks will work better than the Zyrtec does, but he said there are no nose sprays for allergies for children this young. But I do stress every child is different and what works for one doesn't work for all. If you are concerned about the side effects that are possible tell your doc and see if there is something else they might recommend first. Good Luck!!!

I tried Singular for me for my allergies, I had terrible side effects-I gained 14 pounds in 2 weeks (I am tall and thin and it was ALL belly weight), had nightmares, and could not sleep-it really freaked me out. My daughter is 2 1/2 now, and she also has allergies, since age 9 months, she and I both use Flonase nasal spray and have had great results with no side effects at all. She had 12 sinus infections from age 9 months until 2 years old, antibiotics each time, and I really waited each time to take her to the doctor, and now she has had only 1 infection due to bad allergies since Feb. 2007. Good luck to you!! Ask your doctor about it. I have been sinus infection free since March 2007 after having 3 infections a year before that.** I personally was really surprised at my reaction to Singulair, do what you think is best though. My pharmacy also said that there are few side effects!! I assure you I did have nightmares on it- I think I read later that in some people it can raise your cortisol level which would account for my reaction. The Flonase I was describing is a nasal spray not oral so I am more comfortable with that for my daughter, our doctor assured us it is extremely safe for both of us. We get the generic it is $10 a month for each of us.

I would be real hesitant about giving such a young one drugs that even have a half a chance of causing all the side effects listed for this product.
I remember as a child...having allergies, and hay fever and NOT being on a daily dosage of allergy drugs...and miraculously...I lived.
Unless your baby's symptoms are so bad that she can't function....I would do everything possible to avoid any unnecessary drugging.
If you still have concerns consult your pediatrician...and then perhaps another one...just to get a second opinion.
Good Luck

I dont understand why each make certain around you believes you're being a ways too lax. You do self-discipline her. Your technique seems effective so what's to criticize. i like which you in common terms make her sit down on the chair for 10 - 20 seconds. it is in common terms a distraction and a speedy reminder that she has achieved some thing incorrect. Plonking her on the naughty chair whilst shes a million/2 way with the aid of a around with the cat has a marvel component in itself. only like a smack i assume yet much less painful :)

My son was on Singular when he was a year old. He was given half a pill a day and he did not have any side effects. If you have any concerns (and what parent wouldn't) give her doctors office a call and let them know.

I would not give a little one that medicine. I would try bulbing her nose regularly, salt water in her nose I like a product called little noises - you can get it at Walgreens if you live in USA. Try giving her more vitamin C or a kids vitamin to help her body fight it more naturally.
