can i just connect my laptop to my TV and be able to record programs etc.

or do i need a capture card?

well i think i know what your asking i think you are asking if you connect your laptop to the tv usuing an S video and you want to record what is on the laptop? you can only use an S video out for a laptop there is no in so you cannot video anything that you have connect to it on the laptop only on the tv because the tv is an S video in.

You need a capture card. The S-video port on your laptop is output only, as if you wanted to connect your laptop display to a TV, projector, etc.

No you cannot. The s-video connector on your laptop is video output only so that you can see on your tv what is displayed on your laptop. If you want to record you will need some sort of video capture devices to hook up to your USB port.

you would need a video in that is found on some of the newer computers in the form of AV cables. and then a recording program with video codec to choose wich format you want the recorded file to be in.
