First, you need to speak with a Sony Customer Service representative on the phone. The number is 800-345-SONY After you talk with them for a little bit and explain your situation, they will decide if your PS3 needs to be sent back for repairs. Then they will give you the address to send the PS3 to.
I sent my PS2 to Sony for repairs about 4 years ago, and I went through the process of sending in my console. Also, Sony repaired my console and got it back to me within 2 weeks, but the time for a PS3 may be longer.

You will need to contact Sony and get a RMA (return material authorization). Without an RMA, you are just wasting your time and money.
