Do you have a name you call it?
The cats do this because at birth they had to pump their mommies to make the milk come out, so it's comforting to them. (Courtousy of Kimè)

My family has always called it kneading. Sometimes we say there're making bread. Or as my boyfriend calls it (if the kitten is on him or me at the time) making owie. My kitten does this mainly when she is getting ready to lay down for a nap. I always feel happy when I see my cats do this because I know they are happy and content and I know I am providing them with a life they enjoy.

My boyfriend and I say that our cats are "making muffins", but really it is a kneading reflex thats carried over from kittenhood.
