I have very sensitive eyes that are dry.....they are ALWAYS red so I have to use Visine every single day....I have done this for years.....I know that isn't good for my eyes and they are probably already building a tolerance for the stuff, but they are so red that I can't stop using it. What could be wrong? What would help that wouldn't cause damage to my eyes?

Talk to your doc about it, or preferably an opthamologist. It could be eyestrain--when were your eyes last checked--and you need specs. It could be allergies, and taking allergy meds should reduce the redness. See your doc about allergy tests. But you should STOP this self-medicating and see some one about this.

Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) is the only prescription product for chronic dry eyes. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002, the drug increases tear production, which may be reduced because of inflammation on the eye surface. In a clinical trial involving 1,200 people, Restasis increased tear production in 15 percent of patients, compared with 5 percent of patients in the placebo group. Restasis is usually given twice a day, 12 hours apart. It should not be used by people with eye infections or hypersensitivity to the ingredients. It has not been tested in people with herpes viral infections of the eye. The most common side effect is a burning sensation. Other side effects may include: eye redness, discharge, watery eyes, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, stinging, blurred vision. If you are not under the care of an ophthalmic specialist / doctor, you would be advised to seek advice at your earliest opportunity. Continuing problems with the eye may lead to irreversible results.

Try rinsing them with saline solution. It is usually sold in the contact lens section. You may be having an allergic reaction to the preservative in the eye drops.

aww, that really sucks. i have red eyes too, but only sometimes cuz i wear contacts, like if i sleep in them or something. i use clear eyes redness relief...but since u already use that eye drop stuff, i guess you could relax them more by washing them out with cold purified water daily, like from a waterbottle. it's really refreshing. but don't use soap, haha. i hope that helps.
