I am sure because the bible was boring and I didn't understand it until I gave my heart to Jesus and got filled with the Holy Spirit. It's hard to explain but you know that the Holy Spirit is with you when he is with you......and it's more real than your own name. Why not take the plunge and find out?

This is a good question. We need to not believe every spirit that comes to us, but test them.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
If the Bible doesn't back it, it seems quite clear, perhaps it was the Devil that whispered in our ear.
These are some of the ways the Holy Spirit guides me as I read the Bible, I ask God to show me what I personally should learn from it. I ask what I should improve on. I ask what sins need confessed. Stuff like that. I guess if it's my own voice, I'm still studying the Bible.

True biblical fundamentalists are not interested in *verification* of any kind. Their certitude is not based on any rational, or critical, or coherent examination of *any* biblical issue. They do use reference to the Holy Spirit as a means of explaining their unassailable certitude tp others (as an appeal to an *outside* authority) and some use a feeling they identify as *inspiration* by the *Holy Spirit* to justify either their beliefs, feelings, or their plans for other people in their lives or to explain their own irrational conduct. They principally use reference to the Holy Spirit as a way to plug the holes that others may poke in their beliefs, hoping to satisfy their critics but never needing any such reassurance themselves. Absent such opposition, however, their practices have no genuine reference tor resort o the Spirit. Don't forget that, if someone is *capable* of understanding both sides of any issue, then s/he is absolutely intellectually incapable of being a fundamentalist.

David Koresh, and the Branch Davidians in Waco Texas, believed they were guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Rev. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple in Guyana believed they were guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Rev. Moon who performed mass weddings of complete strangers believed he was guided by the Holy Spirit.
Heaven's Gate, who believed God was coming in a space ship in the tail of the Haley Bopp comet, also were sure that the Holy Spirit was guiding the cult.
I could go on and on, but I think the "Bible-believin'" Christians will get the idea.
Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong. Scripture says that God has written His law on the hearts of all men. Jesus said that to love another as one loves himself is the sum total of the Law and the Prophets. Fundamentalists love to intepret Scripture to rationalize their judgment of others. It is a total abuse and perversion of God's Holy Word.

The majority of those who claim to 'hear' the Holy Spirit do not. They are called illuminists.
Scripture says a great deal about the conditions necessary before one is uncluttered enough to detect the gentle voice of God speaking in the depths of a person.
For illuminists, those who have so assurred themselves that they have privileged access to the Holy Spirit, no amount of external evidence will change their minds.
Those who have the most reliable experiences of God place the least stock in it. Those who readily speak of listening to the Spirit for specific directions are probably the least likely to be in contact with him.
In the whole of the Church's history, our most authentic and lofty mystics are the men and women who are the least impressed with detailed messages from God. (St John of the Cross, St Teresa of Avila, etc)
And, if those claim that their understanding is correct, then why are there thousands of denominations and non-denominations all 'hearing' something different and all claiming to be correct?
I guess that would make God a god of confusion, wouldn't it?

Velvet,
Have you ever experienced the Holy Spirit because I can tell you it is so REAL.
I was kinda of like you until I received the Holy Spirit and it nearly blew me away. I received the Holy Spirit in 2003.
I grew up in a baptist church and later became a Seventh Day Adventist, studied with the Jehovah Witness for 4 years and while living in Dallas Mormons came knocking at my door and I finally began to talk to God and said enough! I did not want anyone else telling me they had truth. I told God if He wanted me to know truth, he would have to show me truth not anyone else. While living in Dallas I would listen to endtime ministries. I ended up moving to Garland, Tx and while passing a church that was across the street from my apt. I seen a sign that regarding endtime ministries, so I went in one Tuesday evening where a gentlemen (Bro. Johnny) was playing the videos by endtime ministries and I continued to go. One evening they played a video about being born-again (receiving the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues) and I thought these peple are out of their minds, wacko, crazy, you get where I am coming from. So I questioned Bro. Johnny and He assured me this was real and He invited me to attend the Sunday morning service where a visiting pastor would be speaking on receiving the Holy Spirit (speaking in tongues). So that Sunday morning I attended. The pastor invited all those that wanted the Holy Spirit to come down front, so I said Jesus I just want to know truth. The pastor told all those that wanted God's Spirit to say Hallelujah and I did and the second time I said it something amazing was transpiring, I was speaking in tongues. It is REAL. For more info e-mail me.
GOD Bless You Velvet!!

Because they have no sense of self discipline. They thank God for the good and blame Satan for the bad rather than accept that their life is in their own hands and accept praise or blame accordingly.

To suggest that the Bible is lying, and that God isn't using His Holy Spirit to speak through the Bible, is blasphemous.

The holy spirit will always point me towards God's word, the bible. It will always urge me to put myself last and others first, to resist temptation, to not try and push my opinions on others, etc. etc.
My own voice pretty sounds like those seagulls in the movie "Finding Nemo"....."mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!!"
