It is in the ten commandments and it is sin to take the Gods name in vain. Its a very serious thing to do, and it is rebelion against God. God says it is unforgivable. But, He says if we repent and stop it, we will be forgiven, if we havent died first, or if Jesus hasnt returned to take us home yet.
But, God says to blashpeme the Holy Spirit can never be forgiven. We should take these things serious as we are commanded to obey. God says IF YOU LOBE ME< OBEY ME> Its a command, not a mere suggestion.
Great question. I pray it makes ppl think that have read your question. God bless you girl.

Great question. Many times we forget that when we accept Christ into our lives, that we are now Christians. I hear the once saved always saved quite often. Yet Jesus said that in the end, people would say Lord, Lord, and He would say, I never knew you. When we accept Christ into our lives, He gives us the mind of Christ 1Corinthians 2:16. God desires for us to reflect out, what is inside our hearts. If the surrender of the will is not complete, then our reflection will be of our old nature of rebellion against God, and not of Christ, the Son of God. It is serious to claim to be a Christian, and then to be void of Him. Yes, in the vocabulary we can take His name in vain, but we are deceiving ourselves, if we limit the meaning of the commandment to that. I am curious as to why you would bring up one of the 10 commandments? Many today say that they were done away with on the cross. Do you just try to keep the moral ones? The commandments are found in Exodus 20:1-17. Is it moral to worship our Creator as He has asked us too? 1John 3:4 tells us that sin is the transgression of the law. Look at 1John 2:7, Revelation 12:17, Revelation 14:6,7,12, Revelation 22:14, and Genesis 2:1-3. Now look at Exodus 20:8-11 and Hebrews 4.

Hmmm… Not a Christian here but I have some thoughts on it.
Much of it lies in how the Hebrews viewed the name of a King. A diplomat would speak in the name of his king and therefore would have the same authority as the King. If one were to use the name of the King in vain one would be speaking for the King without the Kings permission. In other words they would be giving decrees that were not sanctioned by the king. So in the case of the 10 Commandments taking the name of god in vain would be using the name of god falsely to promote something or idea, as in a false prophet.

10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

This is a serious answer.
First of all, his name is not "God". That is his rank. To Jews and Christians, God's name is Yahweh. Of course, others have a different idea, and you can neither prove them wrong or yourself right.
That said, listen to what Jewish scholars say about what that law means. To take God's name in vain means to swear by God to do something, and not doing it. That's all. Don't confuse it with blasphemy.

Jesus what a question, god knows what he thinks!
Why can't I use those words? They are only words,I don't need to quote a bible in fact i don't own one so am unable to comply on that front. Do you really get offended when people use god or jesus out of a religious context? Why? I am being serious for once today!
