Yes, as long as your rats are large enough that they don't squeeze between the bars. Also, make sure you have lots of toys and hiding places for them.

I am guessing that if you have 5 very large adult males then it would be okay, the wire spacing looks a little too big for females. I went to the fancy rat cage converter and it said that you could house up to 12 rats, but I still would be worried about the spacing.

Hope This Helps!!!!!
Be sure that the bars spacing aren't too big, we had a cage that one of are male rats head got threw and stuck and ever since then he had a kinked neck, died at a fairly old age of 3 though. :(

There is no cage too large unless you have small rats. In that case, they can squeeze through the bars. Average adult rats should be fine in that cage. Provide hammocks, hanging toys, regular toys, and houses. I used that cage for my chinchillas before I upgraded to a wire cage with a solid bottom. But, I've heard rats being housed in that cage without problems.

Well, there is a review on the page from someone with five rats and at least 2 of the rats can get out completely... she said the older ones can fit their heads through, .. so most likely if your rats want out they could do it.. (even the bigger rats.. if the head fits, most they can get the rest out if they try hard enough)

Yes this cage is way to big. That is a cage for ferits my friend. Try finding a smaller cage, or ask a worker thier they will tell you the best cage to use.

i have a cage just like this for my chinchilla, and its an awesome cage but i have had rats and they will chew through almost anything so you have to be really careful when choosing a cage!

rats can never have too much room to play. but it is good to know how much the gap between bars is, rats can squeeze into pretty small places.

well kind of but it is still good for them because they could extercise and have room to run arond and play with each other, but you can buy a smaller cage if you want but not so small though.but its acually your choice of what you think might be best for them. =]

just check the bar space to make sure they cant escape. it looks like a nice size; they can never have too much room.
