Although it's never *exactly* the same, I do have two plots that keep recurring in my dreams, and I want them to stop! In one, I'm back in high school (I'm 24 now) and I have to ride the bus home, but I don't know which bus to get on. I am always frantically trying to find out which bus is the right one, and scared that I won't get home. I have dreams like this at least once a month, and it's annoying.

I've also had several dreams that I'm at the beach when a tsunami hits, and I'm scared about whether my kids were killed. (I've always found them so far.) The tsunamis always come out of nowhere, without the "drawing back of the water" that happens in real life. These dreams are pretty much nightmares, instead of mere annoyances.

So is there a way to stop recurring dream plots? These dreams do bother me a lot (yes, even the bus one) and I'm looking for a way to stop them.

One of the main causes of recurring dreams is that your subconscious mind is trying to tell you something AND YOU JUST AREN'T GETTING THE MESSAGE... These both deal with the theme of fear of the unknown, suggesting that you are not comfortable with there being "unknown" things "out there," and they will continue until you can consciously accept that no matter how much you try to convince yourself that we live in a state of harmony presided over by a kind and just God, the truth is that we live in a phase of discord, and walk on the edge of a razor each moment. Learn to accept the uncertainty of our existence, and you will learn to release your fear.

dream of the bus
is a frustration dream....and I agree with some of the other answers in that "Where is life taking you"
or even "What you want out of life"

perhaps it's because you gave up so many dreams
to have the life you have now...but I know,
you can imagine it different...

I often will end up "back at school"
in a frustration dream jsut before I start a new job,
make a new friend or go to a party at someone's
house...just seems I get the nervous nellies,
and sent to "learn more"...wink. new things...new lesson...

With you it can be the same...
new direction, destination...new bus troubles...
it's more about what you do after you wake,
than what ishappening in the dream.
How do you feel when you wake from that dream
and do you feel more capable and able,
more prepared to face the challenges???

I used to work in a daycare,
and always dreamed of fire-drills...not real fires,
jsut the trouble and hassle of moving the kids safely
from place to place without losing one, or getting them
all excited or scared...so I understand a bit of the
tsunami fear...
It's a real life fear, becasue you have real lives
depending on you for survival, and it's a huge deal.
but you find them...so you know what?
You are doing a great job.

i would say you are telling yourself,
even if you are not perfect, and calm...
that you are a good parent, and able to handle it.
(A day at the beach sunny and calm...
would mean you have no challenges and it's a vacation.
because it strikes without warning, you react
as best you can and deal with the threat...finding them
unharmed...beacuse you have the skills it takes
to protect and guide them to safety.)

life is a stormy thing, but it sounds like you
take the job seriously, and that you are doing it well.
I know the bus thing seems haunting...
as if you aren't progressing or feel like you should
know which bus to get on already...
but it's more a matter of trusting yourself to get home,
no matter which bus you get on or where it takes you...
you will alwasy find your way...no matter what...
and you mind is busy planning and plotting all these
"side trips" when really your heart is guiding you
at all times...to the best possible place...

You are not taking your life in the direction you need to go in, and it is causing you alot of emotional stress. It also kind of sounds like you're aware that your life is not going in the right direction, but you can't decide what is the right direction for you to go in..(For example, you are young, and maybe having trouble deciding what you want to "do" with your life, or how to go about it) If you can resolve why you are not going in the direction your life should go in, and put yourself on the proper course, then the dreams should stop...

Do not bother.
The dreams tell you that you have some unfinished businesses and that you don't enough concentrate your effort worrying many things.
They will cease anyway, as you can focus doing anything important with more dedication.
