So i have a cousin, who lived in California for a while. He was a 4.0 student and was given scholarships to numerous schools. However; he instead turned to a life of crime. He started with trying every drug. Then he sold drugs and buried them in his parents back yard. Then he drank whole bottles of liquor in the bathroom of stores, then he stole credit cards, then he stole cars. Finally after he was given to many "breaks" he moved with his parents to Mississippi, where they had a mansion. For some reason he decided it was a good idea to douse the place in gasoline and burn in to the ground. Now he is in a Mississippi prison and was given 10 years. I heard however that he was getting out much earlier then usual, early next year. He has only been there for about a year and a half. My question is why is our justice system like this, why do they give you scary sentences with no backbone whatsoever. and what should i do about this cousin in the future,i know he is the type to make plans.

Do about him? You don't have to do anything unless I missed where you said he is a minor and you have guardianship over him.

He has continued to make choices that landed him where he is now. If he hasn't learned his lesson, he will be back there shortly.

When people show you who they really are.....believe them.

He has shown many times that he has no regard for the law, consequences or others. This sounds like a young man who had conduct disorder as a youth which has now become antisocial personality disorder.
If his behaviors were ignored at the onset as a 'phase' then not much can be done now. HE has to choose.

Good luck to you and your family

the system is to lenient in certain areas and to hard in others, and if your cousin does get out i would suggest avoiding him at all cost.
