Assuming you are not a US citizen and you must go through US Immigration and Customs upon arriving in NY, basically ANY conviction (aside from lesser traffic offenses) will prevent you from traveling under the Visa Waiver Program if you are from a country covered by it. You would have to apply for a Visa and provide any documentation required upon request at the visa interview. Even if you have a visa, CBP can deny you entry to the US.

I imagine you are entering New York from another country (there are no border crossings between the States).

Depending upon what is your country of Origin, you made need a Visa. I never had to get one, but I imagine the question you ask will be establihed when acquiring a necessary Visa.
