my read only attribute automatically changes to readonly even after i change it in properties.

i want a way by using registry. every folder in my computer is like this and ticked with box instead of a tick on read only option. is it some kind of a virus act..

Is it on a CD?

If yes, copy it to the desktop, then change the attribute, it will stay that way until you copy to a removable disk.

You have to take ownership of the file first.

Go to the properties of the file and then go to the security tab then advanced button. Go to Owner tab and change the ownership to your username.

Go back and change to the first page (properties) and check full control under your user name. Then you should be able to change it.
