Due to my son having so much difficulty in school (kindergarten)...I've been considering taking time off work to help him. I wanted to find out how do I look into being a babysitter in the meantime? I was interested in maybe having a daycare in my home.

Any ideas? Thank you all.

IF you are only taking some time off work but plan on going back then just post around your area about "babysitter available". You will get responses im sure. If you want to get a daycare going in your home, the process it takes to have a licence and everything approved, your child will already be done kindergarten. if you need something quick, just do casual babysitting.

I'm not sure how you would start your own daycare but I'm sure there are plenty of resources to find out how.

If child care is something you love, then go for it. But if you're just looking for at-home jobs there are also plenty of those as well.

As far as your son's schoolwork is concerned, I'd even consider homeschooling him. Some kids just aren't "school" kids. They don't do well sitting and learning for numerous hours each day. Sounds to me like he just needs individual attention and it'll be a cold day in hell before he gets that at public school.

You could homeschool for kindergarten, and see how that works. (Even though school has already started you can pull him out any time.)

I was homeschooled and my grades improved drastically after leaving private school.

To begin...

Start to learn what is your son's interest...
Then take that as an advantage because children would cooperate and work well if the child is interested.

Be creative, if it talks about math then play with him with math. Play with him with "Buy and Sell" (i dont know what is it called. hehehe), you provide play money and some things to "sell" like candies, stuff toy. When I was at kindergarten, my mom let me play monopoly (it was fun to me but not recommended because it was kinda hard at the start).

Just be more creative. ^_^

First of all, good for you!

Secondly, look into the regulations for day care providers in your state (they are different for many states). Here is a link to help: http://nrc.uchsc.edu/STATES/states.htm

If you can fulfill all of the qualifications required, then go for it. To fill spaces in your daycare advertise in the newspaper, print fliers and post them on public library, shopping center bulletin boards and the like. You can even create a free website and advertise your center. Many ISPs host websites for free.....geocities.com, google.com, freewebs.com to name a few.

I would imagine that it would help to have a separate area in your home for the daycare. Maybe that wouldn't work for every home... You can shop at Goodwill and yard sales for toys, games, videos, blankies, nap rugs, and kid furniture to supply your center. I would also consider shopping at Sam's Club for all the food and snacks.

I wish you luck....and I hope I've helped.
