Go on a payment plan to pay for the damages to the other party. You probably will lose your license because even though NH does not require insurance, they require that you have enough assets to cover damages (I believe $25,000 but I would have to look that up). If you do not have this amount in the bank or in property you can sell, you WILL be required to have an SR22 for 3 years - this means you have to have a policy for 3 years. The premium will be high because you had an accident without insurance and that is considered a major incident & you will have to go with the Facility or Progressive. Probably Progressive is the cheapest. If you had insurance before you had the accident, accident surcharges in NH are only $90 per year with most companies.
I think this may be an expensive lesson for you. Don't go without insurance again.
Hopefully there were no injuries because if there were, you could be paying this for the rest of your life.
Edt - 10/11/07 - If this vehicle was a NH vehicle that you hit, on a NH auto policy there is only uninsured motorist property damage if the at fault party HAS insurance but the company becomes insolvent, so, unless the other party has collision, his company cannot do anything for him. He would have to come after you personally for the damages and/or take you to small claims court if the damages were not too much. One suggestions, when you do pay the other party, make sure he signs off on the amount received (if you are on a payment plan, get a signed receipt for each payment) and he signs a letter stating the payment of $______ (total you paid) pays for any and ALL property damages and bodily injury resulting from the accident dated ____, so that he cannot come back to you for more damages. Both sign this in front of a notary & have the notary sign & seal it. That way he cannot deny signing the letter.

Assuming you are saying that you are the one at fault and you did not have insurance:
1. The other person's insurance company will call you. Go ahead and tell them you do not have insurance. They will settle with their policy holder as an uninsured motorist claim.
2. Once the insurance company settles with their policyholder (this can take time if injury claims involved) then they will contact you.
3. you can set up a payment plan with the insurance company to pay them back a little each month. This is interest free. Usually the insurance companies are willing to take 100.00 per month until the debt is paid.
4. if you stop making your payments, the insurance company may suspend your drivers license, sue you or turn you over to collections.
5. as long as you make your payments - on time each month - they do not take further action against you.
If an uninsured motorist hit you - call your insurance company and let them know you need to file an uninsured motorist claim.

Where I'm from the least amount of insurance you can drive with is called public liability. And where you are, the case is likely the same. With no insurance at all, you are open to both civil and criminal suits. The state will want to prosecute you for driving without any insurance and the driver of the other vehicle will want to launch a civil suit for claimed bodily injury and vehicular damage. Driving without insurance is really asking for a way to downgrade your life.

fyi you should always carry, at the very least, liability on your car. since you dont have insurance you will have to pay out of pocket. if you dont have the money you might be looking at jail time because the other person involved almost always sues. and when they do they will throw in extra unnecessary aches and pains that were never there. so you are pretty much between a rock in a hard place. get a lawyer if at all possible. good luck to you. P.S. please get insurance after this!!!!

Lawyer up pal, they are going to try to squeeze every dime possible out of you. Not to mention fines and possible jail time.
Why don't you have insurance?

Be a man and pay your debt in any way you can. You are responsible for your own actions.
